This is the discussion for chapters 10 and 11.

This is the discussion for chapters 8 and 9.

Sorry this is late, but this is for the discussion of chapters 6 and 7.

I must admit that I do not like Mr. Pecksniff. There is something about his character that sends warning bells off in my head.
I can also imagine the shock from the Victorian audience when it is revealed that Martin is traveling with a young lady that is not a relative, nor a wife! I wonder how that went over during the time period?

I finally was able to watch the movie yesterday and really enjoyed it! I would never have picked some of the actors for those parts!
Benjamin wrote: "I finished chapters 1-3 this morning, and the book seems to be moving along quickly. I find it interesting how Dickens indirectly introduces Martin Chuzzlewit. Instead of saying "this is Martin ..."It is an interesting way to set the scene and introduce a character. As I have been reading this book, I keep hearing on the radio about a free weekend for ancestery.com and how you can find out about where they came from. The beginning of this books reminds me that everyone wants their past relatives to be something special. Such as the story that a Chuzzlewitt was Guy Fawkes, it is no fun to have regular, ordinary relatives!
Ella's Gran wrote: "Useful? and entertaining
http://realbusiness.co.uk/article/213..."That is very funny! I love the quote from Hugh Hefner, just hilarious.
Casceil wrote: "I think we would want to put some space between it and Tender is the Night."Thank you for the reminder of what book was after Martin Chuzzlewitt. I apparently cannot find the thread where we discussed this, did we put in a time line?

This is the children's group read for August. Please remember to post spoilers if the month is early. Due to the fact that most of these books are not long, I'm only going to give it one thread, if that runs into problems then I can amend that. Thanks and happy reading!
Benjamin wrote: "Has this group read the great gatsby? It is one of my favorites, and it is pretty short (probably a one-week type book)."No, but it has been mentioned a number of times. Maybe, we could read it closer to the end of the year?
Andrea wrote: "Wow! So many choices! I love all of the books you listed in the other thread. What about my all time favorite, The Secret Garden? I usually read it every few years. It would be so nice to discuss i..."Sounds good to me, would you like to start it tomorrow or wait until next month?

I help with a summer reading competition in my county and this year I had to read
Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH,
James and the Giant Peachand
Ribsy. The other books to read were
Harriet the Spyand
The Indian in the Cupboard. It was fun to re-read some books from my childhood, while introducing them to a new generation.

What would everyone like to read for this month or two? Kerri is busy so to keep the reading going, let's get some suggestions going!

Is everyone ready to start reading tomorrow? I'm looking forward to this one. I've only read two Dicken's books,
A Tale of Two Cities and
A Christmas Carol, so I can't wait to read one that I have no clue what the story is about.
Andrea wrote: "Any children's classics reads coming soon? Looks like the last one was a few months ago...."What would you like to read?
Andrea wrote: "I used to name all of my dolls and stuffed animals "Annika" for many years. I also loved the monkey and the horse."Ha, that is funny! The horse had to have the patience of Job to deal with Pippi!

Hello and welcome to the group Ben, rather belatedly! I'm glad that you have made your presence know and it is great that you have kept up with the reading. I noticed how much of my favorite books every year are from this group's monthly read and I appreciate being introduced to them. On a side note, I started running last year, and participated in two 5ks, what fun! I hope that you continue to enjoy the group and happy reading!

A giant statue of Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy submerged in a river. Now I think that I can say that I have seen it all! LOL!

This is some of the books that I remember from last year that I enjoyed.
The Moonstone,
Atlas Shrugged,
East of Eden,
The Tower, The Zoo, and The Tortoise,
As a Man Thinketh,
Little Britches: Father and I Were Ranchersand
The Three MusketeersMost of my favorites came from this group's monthly reads, so thank you all for expanding my horizons!
☯Emily wrote: "Interesting announcement: http://www.stylist.co.uk/life/jane-au..."That is interesting! Thanks for the link! Did you see the thread we have about the idea that Jane Austin was murdered? I wonder if Jane would be thrilled with all the attention she still gets?
