I thought it was fun that they used "The Fall" as the first book. I did have evil thoughts that one of the camera men would knock over some books in their attempt for a better shot. Not nice, I know.

That's funny, I also enjoyed
The Night Circus, although I was not thrilled with the ending.

I know that this is really late, but I was trying to clean up our folders and I realized that we had a best books of 2010 and 2011 but no 2012. So, what were some of your favorite read from any genre that you read last year?

I saw this on someone's status update here on Goodreads and thought that it was too cool not to share. Maybe, some of you could do this with your own libraries at home?

This is the thread for chapters 4 and 5 of Martin Chuzzlewitt. Dickens published the book in monthly chapters, so to keep the schedule moving we will read two monthly installments every week for 12 weeks. This is the second installment for the week of July 15th - July 22nd, if you would like a comprehensive schedule look under the chapter 1-3 thread. Thanks!

I'm going to wait to put all the different chapters in until closer to the start date so that it does not overwhelm the other threads in the group read folder.

How about starting on the 15th? That would actually give us 12 weeks until the end of September, which was the original end date.

That sounds like a great idea! It would be fun to read it like a cliffhanger movie. Plus, it would seem to be easier to stay up with the reading schedule. Thanks for the extra thought into that Everyman! How about starting either July 15th or July 22?

I was wondering if we could move the start of this book back until the middle of July? I was also wondering if anyone had the actual book so that I could split the discussion threads.

This is the discussion for
Martin Chuzzlewit. Please remember to post spoiler alerts if necessary.

This is the discussion for chapters 51-100.

I'm thinking that we could keep it open until the end of the summer that would take some stress off of trying to finish by the end of June.

My IRL bookclub has a hostess for the month and she supplies the questions and leads the discussion, and it works wonderful. I'm all for the nominator leading the discussion or, or at least, starting it and trying to keep it moving.

Thank you Mark, that info is great!

Does anyone have a actual book? I thought that we could split this one up into sections, thanks for the ideas group, but I only have a Kindle version. Does the physical book have good breaking points for this?

I wondered about Marie's feelings for Felix also. I agree that she seems to have fallen for him based on the fact that he went to her first instead of her father. It seems that his laziness/insecurity worked out in that aspect.

These ideas are great. I like the idea of more threads for books, and I want everyone to know that the ability is open to members if they would like to open threads. I had to watch that since we had some spammers come in and go nuts with that.
I also like the idea that the nominator might be in charge of the discussion. I don't want to discourage people that don't want to lead the discussion however, but it would be great to have different people to lead discussions.
The concept of taking a break between books is wonderful also. Takes the stress out of things.
Would anyone be interested in becoming a co-mod with us?

I understand the frustration and that is part of the reason for this thread. I will have to admit that I get nervous when I have to direct a discussion. I never was one for English lit and the only similar class that I took in college was a mandatory writing class that all freshman had to take, so when the discussion wanders into that part I get nervous and don't want to look like a fool. I was wondering if we could have a read that centers more on school reads that turned people off from literature? "Catcher" would be an example of that kind of book.
