22225 I plan to retire in about two years and where we will move to after retirement is still up in the air. Destinations range from Australia to the U.S. and everything (with pleasant weather) in between. With this in the future you would think that it would have an influence on my buying habits. Nothing could be further from the truth. It doesn’t figure in at all and probably won’t until the final decision is made. I have been acquiring more eBooks but that is more due to a natural developing transition than a contemplated future move. Like the rest of our furniture, the costs of moving will also include the books. Thoughts of leaving them behind or (God forbid) selling them don’t figure in the equation. As an example, I went to Australia eight years ago and found myself on a book buying spree. When I packed to return to Europe I found that I was vastly overweight. Instead of dumping some of my recently acquired books, I opted to leave my clothes behind and never regretted the decision.

22225 May 2014 seems to be a very GOOD month for book buying. Maybe it could set some type of Goodreads' record. Long live the book buying addict and long may we reign!

22225 The world is changing, faster and more diversely than anyone could ever imagine. Part of the recent changes have come about in the world of literature. This change has taken place on both ends of the spectrum. With internet, the World Wide Web and the ever increasing speed that information is rooted throughout the world, cyber lit has become increasingly popular. EBooks and other forms of hardware suitable for storing and mobile accessing of information are becoming increasingly popular and used. On the other end of the gamut are the new and established authors. This new media mode enables the new aspiring author to test the literary waters before taking the dive. This counts for both the writers and their possible publishers. Books, in the traditional sense, aren’t as expensive to publish and distribute as they once were but it is still far from being cheap. Many publishing houses are reluctant to invest large amounts of money on unknown and untried writers. EBooks almost publish themselves and don’t form a large monetary investment, worldwide distribution is instant and in many instances free. I think digital publications are sure to increase but they will never completely replace ink on paper publications.

22225 I have more traditional books than eBooks but I read them pretty much one on one. I prefer paper and print but can't argue with the price of eBooks. Many of the books on my Kindle are freebees. I've discovered that high prices don't guarantee good books. I love words and the worlds they create.

22225 Everything that glows isn’t gold and every book that costs money isn’t worth reading. With this truism in mind I would not be honest if I were to say free books didn’t interest me. I am a born collector and as such it would be out of character to look a gift horse in the mouth or turn down a free book. I currently have approximately 275 free books on my Kindle. Some of them are one timers but many are sure to be keepers. I am always open to new authors and new books and if I can get them free, I’m even happier.

22225 Once upon a time I thought I had a unique affliction. Everyone around me looked at me and shook their heads like I was a lost cause and no chance for help. First came internet and then came Goodreads. Internet reduced the world into bit-size pieces and Goodreads introduced me to kindling brother/sister spirits. I wasn’t alone anymore! What was once hidden among the masses is now for all to see. I enjoy discussing books and authors but even more I like meeting new people that think, enjoy and value the same things I do. I learn of new books and authors which broadens my reading interests. The yearly challenge stimulates me to greater heights. I hope others think as me and see Goodreads as a win/win situation.

22225 I haven't read it yet... but just give me time. I have a collection of eighteen unread Jonathan Kellerman novels in my library. Gone (Alex Delaware, #20) by Jonathan Kellerman Gone isn't one of them. I will keep my eye open for it. Thanks for the recommendation. To answer your question Laurel, I am guilty as charged. James Patterson practically guarantees a fast, interesting and satisfying read. He has certainly written enough books to keep anyone busy for a long time.

22225 I suspect that you are right (although I’ve enjoyed all of his Alex Cross solo books), but the Disney Land form that all of his books have appeal to a large reading audience. There has to be a reason that so many authors agree to take a back seat to him.
22225 I’m just curious, what exactly constitutes a respectable seller? Is there a black market in books? I am a reading and collecting addict. It is an acquired condition and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I feel comfortable acquiring books by any means (beg, borrow or even steal) making a reputable seller the least of my worries.
