This is possibly the worst book I’ve ever read, and I’ve read my share of bad ones. I made it to the middle of Chapter 2 and that was enough for me. The style of writing was juvenile and read like a bad play, complete with stage direction and boring dialogue. I closed the curtain on this one.

Don’t waste your time. There’s no intrigue here, and the only mystery is—why did I bother? I read the reviews. I should’ve known better.

Amazon best sellers rank #570 free. Is this a joke?

I enjoyed the book by Elizabeth Sherry. She is an inspiration to all new authors and I appreciate anyone that is willing to put their work in front of others...says a lot about a person. I've read the "reviews" and some were spoken with malice and to me...I feel we all as individuals have a purpose in life and if you have a passion to "WRITE" and want to self-publish a book...that is awesome and more productive work to society than what some of the people are saying about someone's work. I always try to be honest in reviews. Yes, there are grammar issues, but....Elizabeth Sherry is a dedicated writer and has added to our world of writers in a positive manner. Perseverance is the key to anything we do in life and those that are negative raters….”what are you doing” to help promote others to read? Try your luck at writing and publishing your work. Personal growth comes with each day we wake up ~ love with all your heart and continue to be productive individuals in our world….read, write, and love with all your heart. (if you see grammar issues, email the author so he/she can make the corrections and become a better author) 

more of a romance than a mystery... more for a young teenager than a grown adult. Too many errors that distracted the reader from the story.

Under the Aspens book #1in The Aspens Series was a some what fast pace read that will make you want to go to Northglenn, Colorado to help find a missing brother, the murder of her ex-husband and this bounce of Criminals who think she has something of theirs and want it back badly. On top of all that what really gets to Sher Mason is the one she said goodbye to a few years ago is now back as a Police Officer and is trying to protect her from her ex and the thugs that want from her. Can she and Glen find what ever it is before time runs for both of them.

This book was written in a style that is quick and easy to read [being less than 100 pages long obviously helped too] Sher runs/owns a deli and she becomes aware that someone is following her. Her ex-husband has people with a score to settle

Predictable

This book is so predictable and unbelievable that it’s almost funny....”his throbbing member”, oh please give me a break. A 15 year old kid could have written this story and gotten a D for it!

Not what I expected.

Thought I was getting a good mystery but the story was too "mushy" for my taste. Will not finish the series.

Good but plain

Very easy to read, the story is nice but it lacked a bit of complexity in the story and the characters for my taste.

Under the Aspens

I don't understand the defect the steel beams had on the story. Why if you're trying to hide something wouldn't you use quality beams that would last.

Typical plotline: girl innocently finds herself in the middle of 'something bad' ... only she has no clue what the "bad" is or how she managed to get in the middle of it. This has her in need of a hero, that will unravel the mystery while saving her from the so-called "bad men".

Naturally the hero is someone from her past, that is still in love with her, only now he comes with a police car and a real understanding boss that lets him take time off at a drop of a hat and extends that time off with an equally easy drop of the hat.

What makes it worse is that everything else makes no sense either.

When the heroine claims "she doesn't usually", in this ebook, 10 times out of 10 meant "I just gave you a spoiler on what I am going to do next".

I couldn't fall in love in the strong hero character (Glen) as, seriously, I would want him to tell me about my brother within an hour of him finding out my brother was missing from a campsite where a smashed cellphone and blood was found at instead ... not wait until the next morning after making me a bunch of crepes for breakfast. Apparently the heroine didn't mind though, so perhaps they are suited for each other? And his profession of love speech sounded ... well ... sappy.

I couldn't care what happened to the heroine either. The only time her character was remotely 'exciting' is when she tried to think of what 'heroines' did in tv movies and, while her lover waited for her to "start acting" - she never acted but instead slipped back into her mode of "she doesn't usually ..." and so passed out instead. And each time the hero made love to her "she never felt" 'like that before' (or so she liked to tell the reader).

In my opinion, the author rushed to tell a story (11 chapters). Well, rushed may not be the correct word as they lingered more on the intimate romance side of the story but skimmed over things when it came to the 'mystery' angle yet have it seem to only take less than a week out of the character's lives to have them professing undying love for each other while solving the mystery of what her ex-husband was wanting her to return to him (he just simply demanded she return his things/possessions). In other words, the story didn't draw me in or having me hold my breath in suspense when the "bad guys" broke into the heroine's house for a third time. And the hero's "friend"/partner - went from "stay away from her" to "okie dokie, you two are a couple again. Hurrah!" about as fast as the hero and heroine hopped into bed.

Another turn off is the misspellings and typographical errors. I know I downloaded a free copy offered but even Word would flag "turned m" vs "turned in".

Under the Aspens by Elizabeth Sherry Found this under the free category on the Amazon Kindle store. What prompted me to read this book was all the negative reviews, which, after reading myself, found they were vastly unwarranted. This is a great first effort by Elizabeth Sherry in the Romance-Mystery genre. Sure there are grammatical errors, but there aren't any continuity errors, the book flows smoothly, character and place are well-written. More than likely, Elizabeth doesn't have a team of editors, proofreaders, historians, publishing house behind her like the 'big writers' do. Many indies out there are in the same boat, writing to the best of their ability, creativity is their strong point while editing/proofreading is not.

And that's ok with Under the Aspens. The main characters have been vetted, fully fleshed out. They are wholly three dimensional, as are all the characters. Is the romance part a bit saccharine? Coming from the Mystery genre, yes, but I admit Romance isn't my favorite. I found the mysterious ex-husband and his cohorts to be intriguing, the illegal activities well-thought out. The plot was well-thought out enough to capture my attention to finish the book to find out what happens next. All loose ends are neatly tied-up, the reader isn't left hanging, wondering what went on, etc., baiting you to buy the next book as some authors do-even the 'big writers'.

Overall, I would recommend Under the Aspens by Elizabeth Sherry for an easy evening read when there isn't anything on TV. I would give 3 1/2 stars.

I received a free kindle copy of Under the Aspens (The Aspen Series Book 1) by Elizabeth Sherry published by Scarecrow Books for fair review. I gave it four stars.

Sher who is a deli owner in Colorado is being is stalked. She feels watched but can't see anyone. Then her garage is broken into & her brother's house trashed while he is missing. The officer, Glen who comes to talk to Sher about the burglary is a man she'd almost gotten close to years before. She broke it off without explanation, because of the baggage she carried with her ex-husband who was tormenting her. There are twists & turns galore.

Can she find what the burglar was looking for before they return again? Will she survive the attacks of the man hired by a vicious criminal mastermind who is stalking her? Can her romance be rekindled?

The only thing I didn't like about the book was the abrupt ending. It's clearly one of a series. It leaves you hanging from a deeply pierced hook.

Got it free on Amazon and thought it might be a nice little heartwarming story. Wrong. It was very fast-paced and an action/romance/thriller very typical and mainstream these days. Simple story line, but still good. I was disappointed with the main heroine jumping into bed so easily with a man on the first night they spend together. Before an I love you is even said, they are in bed. While that may be "normal" behavior these days, I still like to read of female characters with a bit more class and self-respect. It lost points for me on that one. I also didn't care for the sex scenes so skipped over those. The main character's story lines were well developed and I liked some of the details. Overall, I think it was a good book for a quick-read, but not if you're looking for an in-depth life-changing novel. As a self-published author, I can overlook the few grammatical errors. They aren't really a big deal to me as they don't interfere with the story. Won't be recommending, but I did enjoy it, minus the sex scenes.

This was an ok book. I didn't really care for the heroine but the 'hero' was nice. There were plenty of emotions and good scenes. I couldn't really get into this but I think the plot was a good idea. Personally, I didn't like the tense or the way this was written. It took me a while to get the flow but it made it a little harder for me to read. The book picked up about half way thru and I got some of my reading groove back. I didn't really feel this this book though and I wasn't really pulled in. I most likely won't read this again. It was a freebie, but seemed like I pretty much got what I paid for. This writer has some good potential though, in the plot area, but I like stronger characters and different writing style and tense. Good Luck

Well developed story line, interesting characters, lots of action and really good sex. Our heroine Sher has lots of problems that come to a head all at the same time. Followed by an unknown person in a black SUV, ex-husband shows up out of the blue, brother missing and ex-boyfriend that she just up and dropped with no explanation all in one day! Can it really get any worse? Yeah, add a break in at her home and her shop and you have a heck of a day. It's going to take a lot to clear up all this mess, cross your toes and hold your breath it's off and running! Great read, your really going to like this series and all of them are out.

This is a book I got for free on my kindle. The plot line was incredibly simplistic, it was too easy to figure out the bad guy so there was no suspense. There was little to no character development and the bedroom scenes were too graphic (at least the first one was, I skipped the others). I felt sympathy for the victim, but no real connection to any of the characters, they just weren't believable. I won't continue the series.

I enjoyed reading this book. The title attracted me because I've always wanted to visit Colorado. Sher Mason owns and runs a deli in Northglenn, CO. She senses someone following her, but seems to be all in her mind. Her brother goes missing and her deli and home get broken in to and being searched. William, her ex-husband, seems to be the suspect.

I don't want to be harsh, but the only entertainment value from this book is the fact that it plays in my head like a Valley Girl trying to tell a scary story. The suspense of the mystery just isn't there. The plot unfolds like speed bumps in a busy parking lot. Kathump. Kathump. I will finish this book, but only because my goal is to read 10,000 pages.

Needs a good solid editing. Dialog is clunky. Tries to be a police procedural without knowledge of any kind of police procedure. The bad guys are not believable - they all have diarrhea of the mouth. The storyline has promise if the author would just get right information in there and work on developing dialogue.

I think giving this 2 stars is generous, and I feel badly saying that... But, I felt like I was reading the script for a soap opera. I'm not a fan of soap operas- too cheesy for me! But this is a bit of a cliffhanger, so part of me wants to read the next book in the series just to see how everything is resolved. Well played, Elizabeth Sherry!

I thought that this was a pretty good plot and I enjoyed the story. Since I have the rest in this series, I will read them. If I didn't have them, most likely I wouldn't bother to buy any others in this series.

Awful. No editing-lots of errors and the writing was just as bad. The characters were annoying and unbelievable. I got this book for free which is the only reason it moved from 1/2 to a full star (and you can't really mark 1/2 stars on here.) Waste of time.

Bleh --- Poor writing - terrible editing - bland story - boring characters. In all fairness, after I reached the cheap sex scene, I skimmed the rest just to see how the mystery ended. Wasn't worth the effort!

The story has potential but the characters are shallow and the content was poorly written. This book is in need of some editing. I will wait a few days to decide on the next book. I just don't know if I want to spend money on a book I will feel like making corrections to.
