201765 I've only just found these comments! So sorry.

I very rarely enter any competitions as I have no expectation of winning! The first writing competition I won was the Bards and Sages eFestival of Words, Historical Fiction- and I hadn't even entered! Someone I barely knew entered one of my books because his mother liked them! Needless to say, I have not forgotten his name.

I was about to recommend the competition to you all but it appears it has not been running since. Nevertheless the Bards and Sages site might be worth investigating.

Does anyone know anything about how Wattpad runs, please?

I'll find a better thread to post that question!!
201765 We’ve heard a lot about injections lately and we’re told they’re doing a good job. There’s another injection doing a good job: something unexpectedly cheerful can feel just like an injection of joy. I won a prize! Definitely unexpected and definitely something good.

There’s also the usual sage saying, handy hint and stress reducer. And news of three of my books being reduced to as low as £0.77/$0.99 (similar prices for all markets) or a little bit more for the other three.

Hop on over to https://www.goodreads.com/author_blog... and share your idea of an injection of joy. Children? Grandchildren? Holiday? Meeting someone new and super...?
201765 Hide in Time is a time-travel romance.

On your death bed, they say it's not the things you've done that you regret most, but the things you've left undone.

In 1814 Laura misjudges the man she loves and storms off from him only to discover that she's made a terrible mistake. She longs to put it right but finds herself in the 21st century and unable to do so. Or can she?

Laura risks her life to restore happiness to the man she has so badly misjudged and in doing so she frees herself from the destructive regret lingering in her new life. And throughout, love patiently waits for her.

Now 99c/99p until 2nd September

201765 Yes, Alexis, you are probably right!

I'm keeping the wip under wraps at the moment, though some details have leaked out on my blog:

https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

Two of this group's members' books have a mention in it (as shown in the blog's latest post).

I'm a slow writer though. My first book was published in 2012. I just plod on. Hope you will keep going too.

201765 Hi, and welcome home, Alexis! Good to know you're still able to jump! And right back into writing - good choice.

I am three-quarters through my first draft of what will be my seventh published book.

Most people are saying, as far as I know, that sales are slower than they've ever been, so we await, in hope, an upturn!
201765 Hurray!

201765 Dale wrote: "I have two new fiction pieces on Medium:

From The Creative Cafe, "All Backwards," a story I wrote for a Reedsy prompt calling for a story that stars at the end and ends at the beginning.

I'd forgotten about Medium! I must take a look.

201765 WONDERFUL NEWS, DALE.

I wish you every success.

201765 Good one, Dale.
201765 So true, Carole.

I guess all writers think the first line has to be special but it wasn't until a Goodreads member, in a review, picked out one of my opening lines that I realized just how important they are.
201765 How do authors think of an opening line to the first book they write? Until I wrote my first book, I don’t think I ever thought or even cared how they came up with something snappy or enlightening. But first lines of books have become famous. Think of ‘Pride and Prejudice’ or Graham Greene’s ‘Brighton Rock’. Well the blog gives you one idea of how it can happen. Rather embarrassing really.

201765 2k? You're right to do some pre-spend research.

I've never heard of them but that doesn't mean much. I'll go take a look.

201765 Thanks, Dale. I'll keep watch!

201765 Yes, the first. I like the second too but, as others have said, it depends on what's on the inside or what you want to convey.

201765 Sorry, Justin, I've heard of them but know nuffink!

Others may be able to help.
201765 I always thought I’d never start a blog. But I did and somewhere near the beginning I made a promise to update anyone who was kind enough to be interested as to what progress I was making with my new book. So this month’s blog post sort of keeps that promise.

And I did answer the question – Is there a villain?
Whatever do you want a villain for? There’s a squirrel. OK, OK, yes there’s a villain.

There’s also the Sage Saying, the Handy Hint and the Jolly Joke – what more could you possibly want? A win in the lottery, even if you don’t do it? Dream on!

Here’s a book to make you dream:
