I am so glad I am not the only one who had a hard time with this book. After not enjoying Anne of Green Gables last month I was beginning to feel like maybe I was just in a bad mood and didn't realize it!I agree with all the critics here. I thought the cliches and the random bits of Romance novel style made this book about WWII way more cheesy than it should have been. I kept thinking to myself, "this is like historical fantasy not historical fiction." Like many of you, I did think it started to get better towards the middle, but only mildly better. I was hoping the end would save this book for me, but within the last 50 pages I knew the chances of that were slim.
Sorry to be so negative. I'm not trying to judge anyone who enjoyed this, I was just not one of those people.

It counts as a "G" just as you said, it never hurts to double check though!

Thank you Diana!
Sure Renee, I would love to!I am 26 years old and live in the United States with my boyfriend, our two dogs and a chinchilla. I'm an Antiquarian (I buy and resell antiques) my specialty is with antique toys and stuffed animals but I dabble in artwork and glassware as well. In the summer I travel to art festivals and sell my handmade soaps and bath products.
I've been an avid reader for as long as I can remember. However, when I was in my senior year of high school the mental backlash of several events caught up with me, and I went from reading 4-8 books a month to (maybe) 4 books a year. Joining Goodreads really helped me get back to normal. I tracked the books I read in a year and every year set my goal 2 books higher then what I had read the previous year. In 2016 I joined the EHRTBM and that is what finally got me out of my reading slump! At first I was barely keeping up with the 2 books a month, but I found the time because I always really enjoyed the books this group would pick out! Last year I read over 100 books and could not be more happy! This group means a lot to me personally, it is because of this group that I feel like myself again. I am very happy to be helping out and giving back to the group that has done so much for me!

I also agree any book in 2019 should count. While it is ultimately up to Marcos to decide that, both Joanna and myself assume that any book read in 2019 will count for this challenge. :)
There is already an easy level for this challenge!
Level 3 – EASY
You can go from any country to any other one. Travelling by plane allowed, as well as by baloon, flying saucer, magic carpet, Star Trek teleportation etc. Any route, read at will.
The minimum amount of books (no matter what level you choose) is 2 books/countries.

Here's to hoping its all worked out..."Sorry that this has been delayed so long. We have not gotten a response from Marcos yet, but Joanna and I decided to open the Alphabet Soup Challenge today.
Go join the challenge here! Alphabet Soup Challenge 2019

Hello everyone! We have just started the second week of February and Joanna and I felt that we should open this challenge despite having not heard back from Marcos yet. So, although the first message says "The challenge has not started yet." This Challenge has started!
Please start posting your comments below.
Thank you everyone for being patient with the yearly challenges!
Books Read - 3/5✔1. Hamlet by William Shakespeare June 20
2. Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer
X3. The Contortionist's Handbook by Craig Clevenger October 27
✔4.Serafina and the Black Cloak by Robert Beatty March 1
✔5. Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH by Robert C. O'Brien April 1
This challenge was started by the EHRTBM Group's original moderator, Kasey, and we are bringing it back for its second year! The goal of this Challenge:
Read the 5 oldest books on your To-Be-Read (TBR)
HOW TO PLAY:
1. How to find your 5 oldest TBR books:
Go to your personal bookshelf (using "My Books" link at the top of the page) and then your "Want-to-Read" shelf - this is your TBR shelf.
Once there, click on the column header "date added" in order to sort by date you added to your TBR shelf (you may need to click twice to sort oldest-to-newest).
Once you have sorted, note the top 5 books on this list - these are the books you will aim to read this year!
2. Keeping Score
Comment on this thread with the 5 oldest books on your TBR list.
When you've finished a book from your list check it off by adding the date you finished reading next to the title. (see below for an example).
3. To edit your challenge score/edit your comment:
a. Find your comment in the challenge thread. [Tip: Take note of the message number in the upper left corner when you first post your list]
b. On the bottom right of your comment, there should be four hyperlinks: "reply | edit | delete | flag". Select "edit".
c. Add your book read date per above instructions.
d. Click "edit post" once you are done.
4. Challenge dates:
This challenge runs from February 7, 2019 to December 31, 2019.
Feel free to JOIN AT ANY TIME.
F.A.Q:
What if I have multiple TBR Shelves?
Some of you may have created multiple TBR lists, so choose whichever one you think is most appropriate, or take a book from each one!
What if I begin a book, and don't want to finish it?
What you wanted to read 10 years ago isn't what you want to read now? That is fine! Just take it off your list and add a different book in its place.
The purpose of this challenge is to read the books you've been putting off and clean up your TBR a little bit, so do whatever you want or feel like to accomplish that!
Thank you everyone for your patience in getting these yearly challenges up and running. The Around the World and Alphabet Soup Challenges will be open soon!
