189072 This challenge was started by the EHRTBM Group's original moderator, Kasey, and we are bringing it back for its second year!

The goal of this Challenge:
Read the 5 oldest books on your To-Be-Read (TBR)

HOW TO PLAY:
1. How to find your 5 oldest TBR books:
Go to your personal bookshelf (using "My Books" link at the top of the page) and then your "Want-to-Read" shelf - this is your TBR shelf.
Once there, click on the column header "date added" in order to sort by date you added to your TBR shelf (you may need to click twice to sort oldest-to-newest).
Once you have sorted, note the top 5 books on this list - these are the books you will aim to read this year!
2. Keeping Score
Comment on this thread with the 5 oldest books on your TBR list.
When you've finished a book from your list check it off by adding the date you finished reading next to the title. (see below for an example).
3. To edit your challenge score/edit your comment:
a. Find your comment in the challenge thread. [Tip: Take note of the message number in the upper left corner when you first post your list]
b. On the bottom right of your comment, there should be four hyperlinks: "reply | edit | delete | flag". Select "edit".
c. Add your book read date per above instructions.
d. Click "edit post" once you are done.
4. Challenge dates:
This challenge runs from February 7, 2019 to December 31, 2019.
Feel free to JOIN AT ANY TIME.

F.A.Q:
What if I have multiple TBR Shelves?
Some of you may have created multiple TBR lists, so choose whichever one you think is most appropriate, or take a book from each one!

What if I begin a book, and don't want to finish it?
What you wanted to read 10 years ago isn't what you want to read now? That is fine! Just take it off your list and add a different book in its place.

The purpose of this challenge is to read the books you've been putting off and clean up your TBR a little bit, so do whatever you want or feel like to accomplish that!

Thank you everyone for your patience in getting these yearly challenges up and running. The Around the World and Alphabet Soup Challenges will be open soon!

189072 I liked how it was in the Hogwarts challenge, but I think I am one of the few that did. I think manga should be included though.

What Melanie mentioned might work well. With a 100 page limit manga and collected comics would be counted while single-issue comics and picture books would not.

189072 Thanks Marcos!
189072 I love challenges like this where you can customize how many books you will read. It makes it so everyone who wants to can participate whether they read a lot of books or only have the time to read 1 or 2 a month!

A couple questions I had;
How do we decide where an author is from? Most of the time it will be easy, but sometimes there are authors born in say, India who moved to the United States when they were only 6 years old. I'm guessing this would count as a U.S. author?
Then there are authors like Franz Kafka who is well-known for German literature although he is from the Czech Republic and later in his life lived in Austria.

My second question is do you have to have a round trip? Could I start in Ireland and end in Afghanistan? or do I have to end in a country where I could travel back to Ireland? (obviously this doesn't apply to the easy level)

Second that"

Dune has already been read by the group. This nomination belongs in the catch-up thread where I will definitely second it because it is one of the few books I haven't read yet! :)

189072 Celeste (Ravenclaw's prefect) won't be able to update until tomorrow with their totals. But I thought I would still post Hufflepuffs final scores.

We finished the month with 11.03 points! Thanks to everyone who found time in their busy December schedules to read! Our final December Quidditch team:

Seeker: Han - 87
Keeper: Sarina - 77
Chaser: John - 72
Chaser: Tori - 38
Chaser: Barbara - 36
Beater: Vrenzy - 29
Beater: Wonderish - 25

Over the three months this challenge has been going Hufflepuff has read a total of 1,966 books and a 32.77 average! With 52 of 60 participants reading at least 1 book! Our final Qudditch team:

Seeker: Han - 240
Keeper: Sarina - 188
Chaser: John - 170
Chaser: Barbara - 119
Chaser: Tori - 100
Beater: Zainab - 93
Beater: Natalie - 91

Well done everyone, whether you've read 100 books or just one! I've had so much fun over the last three months, and I am so proud of our house! I hope next year will be just as fun! (and maybe we'll beat Slytherin next time!) ;)
