I Am Malala: The Story of the Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the TalibanSwat valley in Pakistan: I didn't expect to use this book for this challenge, but the way Malala described her home region made me wish I could go there. I would have loved to see the ancient 20 ft. Buddha carving on the side of the cliff (The face was destroyed by the Taliban in 2007)
While researching while I was writing this I found out they actually started to restore the carving in 2012 and it was completed in 2016!
Ninna wrote: "I finished this challenge on July 2 but forgot to update my post! It is message 65. "Awesome! I've updated the completed list and got you added on there!
Also, Brian has completed his first challenge!
Congratulations Pixiegirl105 and Jana!remember you can add any book you've read during 2019 to a second challenge. (as long you didn't use it in your first challenge)
Melinda, I felt the exact same. I thought the beginning was a little boring, but I slowly started to be drawn in more and more. By the end I was completely absorbed in the story! (view spoiler)I loved how this book is written like an old classic despite being published in 2016! I feel like this is one of those stories you could reread at different times in your life and get something completely new from it each time. I'm looking forward to rereading it in about 10 years.
My cousin (who is about 10 years younger than me) loved the animated movie when he was a toddler, so I've seen it more times than I can count. I really did enjoy it too. I think it is such a nice story. When he was 3 our local high school did the play and we took him to see it. It was a lot of fun! I'm excited to finally read the book. I put a hold on a copy at my library and should be able to go pick it up in a day or two.

Well done, Thanks Jennifer!
I went through the thread and it looks like Betty (message 37) has completed her challenge as well! I also saw a lot of challenges that are close to being complete! :)
I'm only about 50 pages in, but I am struggling with this. I really enjoy atmospheric/world building books. So far this has not only been character driven, but also is very much so dialogue driven. It is unique, but I'm not quite sure how I feel about it yet. I'm also having a hard time because while I think the jokes are funny, it is hard to read this as a light comedy when the setting is so serious and upsetting.
Jennifer wrote: I didn’t enjoy the book when I read it. It’s a odd one. But I continue to think about it. I’ve learned that can happen for me with books. I guess immediate enjoyment and long term appreciation are different. "I know exactly what you mean! The Sun Also Rises was that way for me. I didn't enjoy reading it, but I think about it often. It is so interesting books can have that effect on us!
