185 Yeah, you're right. I think the 'breath to breath' rule is 4 times before it is no longer usable 'air'. BDB of course have the 'MUST feed from vamps of the opposite sex' rule. So a group of male vamps could all stave to death side by side. I guess it's the books that have them feeding off vamps in one chapter, and STARVING beside a vamp a few chapters later that really annoy me. Can't have one rule here and change it there for effect. Some books are all about the blood being simply the conduit for the life force to transfer to the vamp from the human. Most of those type stuck to only being human feeds and don't even allow bottled blood.

It's not the kind of book you're asking for, but Karen Lynch has a series that I love. Relentless is the first book. The vamps are literally demon possessed humans, so ALL bad. The main gist is there is a group/species of vamp hunters dedicated to killing them off. There are other demons, shifters, fae and others in the world tho, and I think you wanted straight vamps. It's probably a YA or NA (I always get them confused), but def no sparkly vamps in sight.

I'm trying to think of 'straight vamp' books, but everyone I come with has 'other' of some variety. Even Anne Rice has at least witches. Will keep hunting tho.

185 Hmm, I don't think I have a book for you, but I'd be interested if you noticed the 'blood rule' while you read about 'old school vamps'. If you can be bothered ;)

It's always bugged me that a group of vamps can be starving or HAVE to feed from humans/other... Theoretically, they could form a circle and everyone feed from the one on the left - type thing - and all should be feed and healthy. Although someone did point out to me that 'old school vamps' were 'dead'... so dead blood wouldn't help. This makes complete sense for all the old schoolers, but not the newer versions who can feed off each other... but then freak out if they don't have access to humans bug me. I've been trying to see if that's the 'rule', but I don't seem to read any old schoolers.
185 Staci Simpson has a series about vamps who run a resort... Myths & Legends. They are also shifters, but had been cursed to not shift and mate by the bad guys. Second book (maybe 3rd) focuses on the detective trying to nail the vamps in the first book. She has a teenage daughter. Think her partner (cop) was a guy, but from memory, he's not got too much of a part.
185 You've got tail by Renee ???...
185 Katherine Kerr, Deverry series has Aden who in one book (long series) has a never ending Apple. It's not a big deal apple tho. There's also lots of magic and Aden does it too. Think he helps stop a war... And several times were people make it rain. Daggerspell might be the first book in the series, but the apple, and Aden come later.
185 Marie Kelly has a couple similar.

My Son (not yours I think, h always raised and now has custody of cousins 1yo son after she dies. Cousin always told her 'the father knew about the baby, but wasn't interested'. The H gets notification of the cousin dying and asked if told the h is fine to keep the kid... The H never knew about him and wants him NOW!)

A maybe, but I can't remember the name but can look if it sounds right... h is on travel tour and ends up saving the H's brother (he's famous) from a crashing light at the club she's working at, but is injured. He insists she stays with him/his brother while healing. Enter arrogant, jackass brother (H), mouthing off about his brother leaving his late night entertainment lying around. They clear it up and hit it off. Later there's the 'but we're in a relationship... But I only do mistresses, deal with it' convo. She doesn't and leaves. She goes back to travelling tho and he can't find her anywhere, until they stumble over one another 4yrs later... and the story goes from there.
185 Bring on number three ladies! Only sad that it's the finale :(
185 MAYBE... The Luck series. I don't remember her trying to wipe her history or anything like that, but she's a tarot reader and he's a Russian and book two lands them on Mars... If it's not the series, I still suggest reading. Books three should be out any day now. Can't wait 🤗

185 MAYBE... cause they are workaholics, but it's mostly addressedish from the start. Think both of these are actually Aspergirls too, so the workaholic sticks for the most part, they just find a way to build in a life with it.

Estelle Ryan, 'Dante(add various painter names in here)' Connection. A series.

The Kiss Quotiant.

Think I've got some other more streamline books you might be looking for, but I read these recently and they stand out.
185 ... don't think this one is it... she can 'see/sense' souls somehow that I can't remember. Ends up helping the cop, but doesn't have issues with panic attacks or going into the station.

Soul Summoner maybe?

185 It is a big part of the story, but it's not really the focus from memory.

Wind chime cafe
185 That rings a bell, but no idea where to start looking. I suspect I've read it/something like it either last year, or the year before maybe... but that's a lot of books to look thru.

I'll keep an eye on the thread incase you of someone remembers something that triggers my sketchy memory.
185 Oh I loved Mrs Winterbourne(?)... The movie with Ricky & Fraser!

You think it was made from this book? I'd be interested in reading it if it can be found.
185 Strangers
185 Dean Koontz has one about a bunch of people gravitating back to a motel at the same time. They all start talking about weird things happening and one of them is a solider type who spy's on them first while he's trying to figure out what's going on, before joining them and telling them they need to start taking precautions (think he had tech that let him listen from a distance thru the windows).

**spoiler???

Pretty sure they were all randomly at the wrong place wrong time for something, and the government implanted basic generic memories to cover it up. The brain washing was failing, which was why they were all now drawn back to the place.
185 JC Diem, the Shifter Squad series?

185 Outlander is a bit funny like that... Can't remember if it's obvious in the front of one of the books, or something I read elsewhere, but I'm sure DG said she started writing straight HR, but the h (Claire) kept 'acting up' whenever she was writing her... so she HAD to make it a time travel book to fit this h who wouldn't shut up!

Can't think of anything out and out 'promoting' any of the ism's, though I have read a few books that have me completely ranting about whatever ism-ish had 'accidentally' been promoted. One was Alpha by Regan Ure(?)... The h is a 16yo alpha who is so insistent on controlling her own path that she legally get emancipated from her guardian, who she still loves and lives with... Then she mates and it's all about being overy-impaired and her equally young alpha mate patting her on the head and letting her pretend she still has rights to her own decisions... Until they go against his... Then he just takes over for her own good... And she's pretty much 'didn't like that, but love you *sigh*'. There was another I didn't finish about a rich guy who grew up poor with a struggling mum, who decided it would be awesome to turn a chef/tenant in his new building into a whore effectively, cause he was determined to sleep with her, and she had enough money issues and thankfully family medical money issues (thankfully cause it wasn't just her wanting money and doing anything so she wasn't broke) to be bent to his oh so condescending will. Most of the time I don't mind those types of book, I just eyeroll and enjoy the story, but that one got my blood boiling for some reason!

Lol, I can go on about some of those types of books for days!
