Your bk would be bk 2 or 3 I'm guessing, I only read bk1. It was about a NY girl who has an uptight Irish mum who when pressed by events finally tells her daughter about her father. The females of the family have powers and are talked about in the Irish town, the mum buried hers and when she met and fell for the dad he thought they were just SML town superstitions. Something weird happens and he freaks and runs, by the time he calms down, she's figured out she's pregnant and run to NY and left a letter saying stay away. Bk1 is the daughter finding out her family history and getting 'called' back to Ireland and finding out the family history... Including that her dad married another and she has siblings and ni-phews, who don't have the best opinion of her.

Don't think it's ya, but Blake Pierce has a book like this. Think it's one of the Riley Paige Mysteries... once Taken maybe?

Not sure I'd classify as rom exactly, but that's a back storyline in one of the BDB books by JD Ward. Lover Eternal maybe? I can't remember his name, but the guy who adopts John Mathew.

Ah, I've figured out why I still like it despite her ridiculous lack of horse whisperyness...

The H has horse whispery skills. And I just like the H too ;)

So I'm reading Breaking Free by Juliana Haygert again. It's basically a romance suspense (I suck at categorising books ;), but it has a crack at the h apparently being a horse whisperer. Not that you'd know it from all the stupid mistakes she keeps making with the horse, although this horse is her first one since her g-ma was the horse whisperer and she has just died, but you'd still think she'd have picked up a few basics like turning off your phone ringer when working with a skittish horse... Anyway, I'm rambling again. Sorry.

Aside from the TSTL mistakes, I actually find I like the book, and think it might be the basic idea of the horse whispery stuff (I LOVE Heartland on ABC).

Can anyone suggest some others? Probably tend to stick to romance for something like this, but if you think it's good, let me know. I'm also a cheapskate, so the cheaper the better, but again, if you think it's worth the money, throw it in and I'll add it to my list :D

The aunt and cousin/sister are 'white trashy', screeching about most things most anywhere.
The back story is that the dad (dead, along with h's mother) was dating mom, but sleeping with both mother & aunt (who I think we're twins), but I don't think the mom knew until they both found out they were pregnant.
That left them having daughters/sisters/twiblings very close together to a guy who didn't really care about either... and the aunt always screeching he loved her more, while he floated in and out of their lives still screwing whatever laid down long enough.
The cousin/sister is out of town at the start of the book (followed a guy?), but her life's ambition is to replicate the triad that the parents didn't quite have with her cousin/sister.
The h is living with the aunt under sufferance because she's 'useless' and still bemoaning the glory days of being loved so much by the cheating guy who skipped in and out of their lives, and can't does work I think.
The h is trying to better herself and actually has a bf who's a surgeon(?), and a job etc. the bf's fairly staid and boring, but she likes that contrast to her childhood.
The bf gives he a bracelet that was his g-mothers (pearls maybe)
The h gets confronted by a screaming woman in her work lobby that she's 'cheating with her man' or something similar <-- there's more story, but spoilers. There's something about video of this I think.
h breaks up with bf and refuses to give his bracelet back, not believing him when he knows nothing about the other woman...

As for the H... I can't remember anything :/

There is def a scene where the cousin/sister tries to get her hooks into him too, and the h is mortified that 'her family's roots are showing thru' type thing.
Hell, the faded aunt might even try flirting too

Hmmm... there MINOR comments/elements about that in A Discovery of Witches & bk2 I think, by Deborah Harkness. Diana (the modern h) does time travel and actually meets the child Rebecca (momentarily)... first-? Witch of her family, and she later burned in Salem, as per the comments made throughout the books. Not a focus of it tho.

CM Owens Stirling series... book 7ish(?). Ruby is the h and is a tattoo artist. Triple Dare

Was there something about her friend or cousin doing a 'blood sister' promise with the h to prove her loyalty, and later it turned out the h was actually 'something' different... so the fairly innocent blood promise had a huge effect/change of the friends life...? I think there might have been a (crazy) rogue werewolf passing thru town/school looking for others rogues to rule, who claimed & changed one of the other bffs without her knowledge or permission too. The H was there hunting that guy I think and got smitten with the h and dragged into all the drama, rather than just hunt and leave. He may have been a vamp or some kind of other himself.
