185 Ooh ooh! I know this one! (haha)

Ray Bradbury's All Summer in a Day. Very good story.
185 Anything on this list? https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/3...

And here's a non-erotica list:

185 This is a short story I read in 2006 for class (freshman college writing). Our professor made photo copies of the story for us, so I don't know if it came from a short story collection, anthology, or what (sorry!) First off, I'll say that it reminded me quite a bit of Shirley Jackson's The Lottery, but it was not The Lottery. Again, this was a photo copied story, so I have no idea when the story was written. I'm guessing the latter half of the twentieth century, but I'm afraid that doesn't narrow it down much!

It's been a while, so I don't completely remember the story, but this is what I do remember: it's set in some town where violence is prevalent. It is expected, even. The characters talk about how people who are hurt are at fault - they should have been more careful and aware. The story was told in third person (I think) but I believe it focused on an adult woman. She may have been married. I seem to remember a knife being important in the story (as far as I can remember, most people had knives or used their fists, etc. rather than use firearms). I seem to remember the main woman being scared to leave her home, which may have been an apartment(?) I believe someone died (by stabbing?) at the end of the story.

As you can tell, a lot of the details are fuzzy for me! At the time the impression I got was that the story's author was making a point about violence - how if you expect it and blame the victims, then violence will just increase and we'll all be complicit. The story may have been written in reaction to a real-life crime. But it's possible I'm mixing up this story with Harlan Ellison's 'The Whimper of Whipped Dogs,' so I'm not 100% sure on that!

Thanks in advance for taking a look at my topic!
185 Was this a scary story at all? Or just a sort of normal everyday teen book?

When searching, I found a book called Black Ice. Even though the description doesn't mention it, the worldcat tags included "computers."

185 Either of these? Choicy or Sail, Calypso!?
185 When did you read this? And do you think you know when it might have been published?
185 Are you 100% sure it was Baked Alaska, btw?
185 Also, Fur, how many years ago were you in middle school? We're not you and we're all different ages in this group, so we have no idea what years you were in middle school!
185 Dork Diaries: Tales from a Not-So-Fabulous Life?

If not, check out this list and maybe it'll be on there: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/2...
185 And it's not Outlander, is it?
185 Was this a children's book? And was the main character a grown woman or a girl?

And where did this take place? If it's Celtic, was the main character from Ireland or somewhere else?

You might want to check this list https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/7...

185 Do you remember what the cover looked like at all?
185 I don't know what your book is, sorry! Do you think you're looking for the same book as this person though? https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
185 I second The Magic Half!
185 Dee wrote: "movie wise - sounds very much like that Ricki Lake movie from the mid-90's - Mrs. Winterbourne"

Dee, Mrs. Winterbourne is an adaptation of Cornell Woolrich's I Married a Dead Man :] If I had to guess, the author of Washington Avalanche, 1910 has read the book or seen one of the movie adaptations, because the plot sounds eerily similar...
