185 Was this a book for adults or was it for young adults/children?
185 I'm pretty sure that's E. Nesbit's The House of Arden

185 Maybe it's on this list?

185 Seconding Lobstergirl's question - was it set in the 1800s or the present with time travel?

Here are a couple of suggestions in the mean time:
Steal Away Home
Ghost Hotel

185 I'm glad you could find it! Yeah, doesn't look like 'quadruplets' is mentioned in all of the book summaries - maybe it's supposed to be a surprise in the book, haha
185 Maybe Dorrie's Book by Marilyn Sachs? It has triplets though, not quadruplets.
185 The Stones of the Moon or Raven's Gate?

And since you mentioned a boulder, is it possible that the story has to do with standing stones?
185 The Gift Horse by Sheila Hayes

ETA: Looks like there might be a sequel too? You've Been Away All Summer
185 You're sure it wasn't Someone Like You by Sarah Dessen? She wasn't nearly as popular at the time as she is now.

185 Oh, and maybe you've seen it already, but this is the plot of the movie You've Got Mail
185 Was this a YA book? or was it for adults? And was it set in the past, present, or future?

If it is a YA book, here are a few of lists to look through:
