185 Perhaps Potboiler? MC plagiarizes the work of "William de Vallée"

185 The cover isn't right, but: Dark Dreams has a teen werewolf girl.

So does Lisa Kane: A Novel Of The Supernatural but that's a bit older.

And throwing this one out there, too: Hunters' Moon

ETA: Hunter's Moon is actually sequel to Bad Blood

Ann, if it's Plague Year, and I strongly suspect it is, yes, they both drown. There was a fight, someone fell, both died, I think. I think it was an angry mob type scene. Also, it was the bullied boy's father, not mother, who was a (suspected) murderer (serial killer, maybe?)
185 Sorry, read your first post too quickly, missed some details. Is it Plague Year?
185 Possibly The Drowning of Stephan Jones by Bette Green?
185 Actually not such a long shot at all, Sherri. I second the guess.
185 Glad you found it, Tammi! I'll move this to solved for you and add the book to our shelves.
185 Glad you found it, Cm. Thanks for letting us know. I'll move this thread to solved and shelve the book.

185 YAY!!! Quite happy to have helped. Thanks for coming back and letting us know. :)

Ann, I'll post the other one here when I run out of search strategies, but for now I'm enjoying the mental exercise of looking and the serendipitous discoveries I make along the way!

185 Hah! Nope, still digging. I should probably give up and look for something else, and let the one I'm looking for sneak up on me like this one did. :)

185 I thought so too! It looks like Theresa is still active on GR so hopefully she'll see this.

It's funny, the book I was looking for has almost nothing in common with this one, but somehow the search led me to it and I recognized the plot immediately. I remember spending a good bit of time searching for this one last year - Theresa's story about her grandmother touched me and I was frustrated that I couldn't find it for her.

185 Hey, Theresa! I don't know if you're still looking for the other book you asked about, but I think I just found it! I was looking for something else, came across this description, and it reminded me of your query (really? it was over a year ago? where does the time go?)

Anyway, I think your other lost book is Lost and Found by Marilyn Harris

185 Remember Me, by Christopher Pike, maybe?

185 A few possibilities:

The Phantom Of Walkaway Hill

Mystery at the Snowed-in Cabin by Christine Noble Govan
185 I agree with Anna. As soon as I saw the thread title that's the first thing I thought of.
185 No Promises In The Wind has a character named Lonnie and is the sort of book teachers assign, but I don't recall the specifics.

185 Confessions of a Triple Shot Betty by Jody Gehrman. Definitely.
