185 You're welcome!
185 You are welcome! What's funny is that I've never read this book - but I spent so much time in the YA section of my library growing up in the late 70s-80s that loads of titles lodged in my memory just from seeing them on the shelves so often. As soon as I read your post this title jumped into my head. I'm weird that way. :)
185 You're welcome! Happy to help. :)
185 Geek Love, maybe?

185 Hmmm, possibly Kidnapped by Robert Louis Stevenson? I don't recall details but it's got Scotland and a shipwreck. Maybe a ransom?
185 War Games by Audrey Couloumbis. It's middle-grade, our library has copies in Children's and in YA.

War Games by Audrey Couloumbis
185 Yay! Glad I could help. :)

185 RL Stine has one called Beach House

Edit: I've moved this thread to UNSOLVED, so more people will see it and make suggestions, in case I'm getting my 90's horror mixed up.

185 Sounds like one of Christopher Pike's books, I think Remember Me might be it.
185 Could it have been a YA book? Because it kind of sounds like Sweethearts by Sara Zarr.
185 Not many frontier/pioneer stories are what one would call lighthearted...The Devil's Paintbox is from a male perspective but is pretty grim.

Could it be an older book? I Tell a Lie Every So Often has more humor than hardship.

185 In other words, it's the same size as a paperback, but with a hard and shiny cover. I personally can not stand them.

Sometimes "library binding" refers to a hardback with reinforced binding, as well.
185 Yay! Congrats on finding it. Would you consider scanning the cover and adding it to the GR record? Since there doesn't seem to be a picture of the cover anywhere else on the internet, it would be cool if we had one. :)
185 Nothing to apologize for! You don't have to check our shelves before you post a query. I'm happy I could help. :)
185 Feliks, any guess as to when this may have been published?
185 You're welcome!

I'm always fascinated by the random things people remember and misremember about their lost books. If you look on this group's shelf of things requested more than once, sometimes two people will remember such different details, that you'd never guess they were describing the same book!
185 The cover isn't an exact match to your description, but maybe The Prodigal Troll?
