ugh, this sounds so familiar. I read everything I could find about witches, as a kid in the 70s and 80s. ZKS was a favorite, too. I'll keep thinking on this one and will poke around some more.

Hmm. I did a little searching and came up with these two other possibilities. I'm not sure if either of them is your book, but both seem to also feature girls playing at witchcraft:

LOL, I used to be a children's librarian. Read it so often in storytime I still have the darn thing memorized from beginning to end.

I mean, it's not really a rebus if they're doing it that way, but it seems like a reasonable guess, given the clues.
