Now to you. I am like you, I need to feel the book while I read it. It's so important, otherwise I feel as if it is caged and I can't get to it.
I don't know, I felt uneasy too, but it wasn't that much of a problem for me to say it. Maybe it's just because I give a damn on so many things society is itchy about. But then, I do understand why you had problems with it, I have my words too, that give me troubles.

Violence against women really is a problem, we need to end that. But the one question that always comes to my mind is: "How?"
But we'll find a solution, and I bet there are people already doing just that, let's see how we can help them.

Hey, if OSS would offer jobs I'd be the first one to apply. You're important to me, especially people like you who really want to dive into this wonderful topic called feminism:)
For me, this isn't just a book club, we aren't just people. This is important!

So, I'm always glad when I can help you, just don't be afraid to ask:)

Thank you for reminding us, Ross. We really need to remember why we gathered here, and why Emma invited us here to begin with. We need to march, we need to discuss, and we need to make one little change at a time!

Thanks for reminding that there are indeed some women out there. How could I forget them?!

Reproductive rights is probably a core feminist issue. Other issues that I have to think of are equal pay, the glass ceiling (that women are in politics, but still have not the highest positions, except for Merkel in Germany perhaps) and other laws that still favour men, especially white men.

I agree with you that the author doesn't need to be a woman, but I guess it's more likely for a woman to write a feminist book.
I think the subjects that the book covers must be feminist, otherwise it wouldn't be feminist. But then, take into consideration that way more topics are feminist than they first seem to be.

From everything I heard, it's rather the opposite.
But then I can't tell you from first hand, I never shaved in my whole life anywhere.

Thanks for answering, Amarei. Maybe I just grew up in a too conservative environment (which would actually explain a lot!)

What an honour to be able to help you broadening your mind, Sascha! I have to thank you to, everyone here, because all of you have also broadened my mind:)

Now, if I were to join two people together, dead or alive, I would choose Wilma Mankiller and Emily Quinn. The former needs no introduction, but I'd choose her for her Native American heritage and her Cherokee mind (I LOVE her quote: “An Indian is an Indian regardless of the degree of Indian blood or which little government card they do or do not possess.”). I plan on reading her books and from what Gloria wrote in MLOTR, she seemed to be such an iconic and charismatic person.
Now, Emily Quinn is an intersex activist, and from what I've read about her, seems to have quite the right attitude for general change. She has the balls (pun totally intended) and comforts those who struggle with their intersex-related issues. Check her out, she's great!

I love Marx, his "Kapital" is seen as the best analysis of the industrial society of the 19th century, that's saying something!:)
It took me some time to understand him, but now I really do, and see what a great thinker he was! And revolutionist, he was the publisher of a revolutionist news paper ( I knew I'd need this some time, apart from my studies), and had to live in exile in London after the revolution failed.

In Austria they're not really used to personal letters, more letters to the editor. So, although they might not read them personally, I'm quite sure that whoever reads them will report content and numbers.
