174195 For April so far I have read 2 books.
Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I used it for prompt #3 A book you are prompted to read because of something you read in 2019. I gave it 4 stars. I enjoyed it. I was a teenager during the period the book was set in.
The other book was Disappearing Earth by Julia Phillips. It is set in Russia on a very remote Siberian Peninsula. The story is about the kidnapping of sisters told over a period of time by women connected to the plot. The connection can be through location or anything really. I felt like the book was comprised of short stories or vignettes. Location is as much a character as the people involved. The writing is beautiful & the book is unique but I was mad for a while after reading it. I gave it 3 stars but almost changed it to 2 stars. I don’t know how others feel about the book. I used it for prompt # 16 a book set in a rural or sparsely populated area.
I’m currently reading The Mirror & The Light by Hilary Mantel. She is a great writer. Rather I read a sentence, paragraph,or page I’m instantly hooked. I do back up a lot to reread something to make sure I got it right. When I finish I can probably count this as a reread. There are several prompts I can use it for. Will choose after competition.
174195 I read Disappearing Earth by Julia Phillips. It is set on the remote Siberian peninsula of Kamchatka, Russia. The setting is as much a part of the story as the main storyline of sisters abduction. I gave it 3 stars but right now I am still mad about the book & think I should of given it 2 stars. I put the book on hold in December & waited all this time to read it. Now I’m just mad. The story is told through vignettes involving women that are connected to or influenced by the children’s kidnapping. I felt let down for some reason by the ending. It seemed ambiguous to me. I reread the last pages several times but still didn’t come away feeling I knew exactly how it ended. I was left frustrated.
