173974 I nominate Inspector French's Greatest Case by Freeman Wills Crofts. Available on kindle and other formats.

Inspector French is the central figure in many books by Mr. Crofts. This, his greatest case, opens with the discovery beside the open safe of a diamond merchant in Hatton Garden of the dead body of his head clerk, and valuable diamonds are missing. There are many people to suspect, and before Inspector French solves it, he has to unravel many mysteries and follow up many false clues.
173974 I listened to this on audio a few months ago, and found it good, better than some other standalones.

173974 Thanks Colin and Rosina! :)

173974 All on my kindle, thanks Judy! :) Hope they´re as good as the ones I already read.
173974 I think I won´t get a big fan of Maigret or rather the mysteries he´s supposed to solve. He does so here too, but again the murderer escapes his punishment. I had this as a German audiobook from my library, so - though the performer wasn´t perfect - it seemed to me livelier than when I had read it.

173974 Glad for you Judy! Perhaps we can read it one day? ;)

Great, thanks Susan! :)

Definitely! :)
173974 I got this in German as an audiobook, so hope to start next week too.
173974 I´ll try to squash this in, though the reviews are mixed. ;)

173974 I haven´t read anything by her yet, so a beautiful cover might tempt me! ;)
173974 That was a good idea, as the other female scientist, the German one, is portrayed negatively, as a fascist.
173974 No fan of Christie thrillers, but this one was rather good or at least it seemed so in the beginning. It also reminded me of Bond stories with a touch of implausibility, but the murder detection in the end was unnecessary. Of course the girl also found the man of her dreams. ;)

173974 Besides the Christie mysteries I can hardly get any books from the library, so I mostly buy the British Library Crime Classics, and I´d have The Mitford Murders at home. For the US or UK members it´s perhaps easier...

173974 Sorry that I always choose books that aren´t available in other countries than my own. Here it´s only a few Euros on kindle. On the other hand I often can´t get books that others nominate.
173974 Really complicated with all the persons moving around in the night. I had suspected Richard, then Jane, and even thought Deveraux was in it, so I had at least one right. I liked Wilkins who was quite funny, but didn´t appreciate the mixture of spy story, cosy mystery and all the other ingredients that were a bit much for me. Not bad though.
I was quite rushed in the end, so must have missed who murdered the Baroness... ???
173974 I´m in! Don´t know when to start this...
173974 I should get it from my library soon, so looking ahead. No fan of her thrillers, but this sounds quite good.

173974 Ah, yes! Looking ahead to the challenge! :)
