I really liked this one and my friends really hated it :DThe common point there is that my friends really like the original one but I found it boring when I read it after the zombie version. So I concluded that people who like Jane Austen's stories will dislike this one and people who dislike them will be happy to see some action and zombie scenes over the stupid-classic scenes.
I hope you'll have fun :)
You can re-read for your list (and you have to, for the book from your childhood). However, the plan is a good way to discover new books and authors, so I used few re-reads :)
What did you read this week? The Invisible Library
Was the book as funny as you expected?
I'm not a "laugh out loud" reader, you can at the most expect me to chuckle or smile. With this one, I laughed 5 times on the 1st chapters and chuckled several times after that. So it was what I expected and as comedy is not my genre, it was nice to read fantasy :)
Did you enjoy the book? (feel free to link to your review)
Yes! The story was interesting, there is mystery and the characters were compelling. The writing was light enough, so it was an easy reading and I've plenty of time to discover other books.
Would you recommend this title?
Yes, but the main problem is it seems to be part of a series (sequels are not currently announced). As a standalone, too many questions about the characters and the library are unanswered. You can read it anyway, but it could be a little frustrating.
We are halfway done with Week 8 and we hope it's a funny one. Tell us more about your book. This discussion thread is solely for your progress. (Book discussions go in individual threads.)

Lots of "classic books" here and an ambitious plan for your age ^^I read The count of Monte Cristo, Little Women, Robinson, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Coraline, LotR and The Three Musketeers. I read them a long time ago, so I don't remember them well but I enjoyed them.
For the challenge, I'll try the Phantom of the Opera too, and as side-reads, I'll have a look at Fahrenheit and Howl's Moving Castle.
I hope you'll succeed to finish Hunger Games this time, it's a good story ;)
The folders are (here) the ones with the name "week N: a book about...". I think they are in bold in the main page (with a tiny arrow on the left). You can click on one of them and use the link "new" at the right top corner or you can use "new" in the main page and select the week after.
I finished my funny book, it was more funny at the beginning than in the rest but I don't care as I'm not a comedy reader. I enjoyed it a lot, liked the characters and finished it quickly as the story was compelling. Sequels are wanted :)The 1st book in my side-read Theft of Swords was pleasant, it's a really nice break after some sad or depressing books and I liked the characters.
I've a more difficult time with The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making which has a writing a little too heavy and is less interesting.
I'll jump on a zombie book next because I need a bit of craziness and dystopia before continuing the challenge ^^
I bought the book on sale too :) At $0.99, it was a no brainer after reading the sample.Finished! I gave it 4 stars because I really need a sequel to answer all my questions and for the moment, it's not scheduled!
Tell me how you find the book :)
My review:
Entertaining and page turner book.
I enjoyed a lot the writing and the really likable characters. Irene is a nice hero and a strong enough woman, with humour, something appreciated and not really common in fantasy. The other protagonists have compelling personalities and backgrounds, but there are too many things unsolved about them.
The story was pretty interesting, following a book search in a steampunk alternate London with some surnaturel creatures. We saw them a few time as all is focused on Irene and her team. There was a lot of action, fine talks, some twists and a bit of mystery. I was a little disappointed by the fact all happened in only one world (after the introduction), because I expected travels between universes.
With all the unanswered questions, the book calls for a sequel, so I hope we'll see one.
Hobb is a great writer :)I liked this one a little less than the 1st book.
Overall, I enjoyed this series (as the previous ones) and found it more rewarding regarding the characters. However, as a main hero, Thymara was really annoying (why?! I liked Althea so much...) and I preferred Sedric, Alise and the captain.
Looking at the Goodreads genres, it's often marked as romance so it will fit for this week. I hope it's a good book, as it's pretty big :)
The 1st half is easy to read and the story is interesting. There are some twists with the characters and I enjoy them a lot (I just finished a gorgeous chapter). So far, I laughed few times but I didn't expect to laugh as much as in the sample.
Michelle, I can recommend you to read the ebook sample and if you like it, you can buy the full book :)
I'll probably finish this tomorrow or monday, so I'll leave a review soon about the full story.
Luckily, you liked Hollow World and The Help, it compensates for Dracula!I've to read Winckler (something else than his website and tweets :p), but for the moment none of his books is appealing enough. Maybe later.
For the number in the title, Ready Player One and The 5th Wave are appreciated a lot. Maybe you can have a look at the summaries ;)
Feb 21: The folder for week 16 (a book from an author you love) is now available. Tell us more about one of your favorite writer!
Week 16: a book from an author you love that you haven't read yet.April 16 - April 22, 2015
There are many authors out there but not all of them write something you enjoy. It's time to catch-up and discover a book from one of your favourite writer. A good way to spend a great week and maybe share your love with a topic and a review.
How to Create a Topic:
1. Create a topic in the appropriate folder using your book's author and title (Title by Author). Link your book with the "This topic is about" feature.
2. In the body of your post, comment about why you chose this book. Have you read it before? What are your expectations?
3. Feel free to use the thread as a way to update the group on your progress. Also, when you are finished reading, add a small review and your thoughts about the week's challenge.
4. Comment on everyone else's posts as well! Participation and group involvement will make this challenge so much fun!
**If you chose the same book as another group member for the same week, do not create a duplicate thread.**
No suggestions this week, but feel free to tell the others why you like an author, so maybe members will add his books in their list ;)
Hi, Emily, can you edit the topic and add the title and the author of the book, please? (Title by Author). There are many books with the same title, so we don't know what book you're talking about ;)
Yes, there were Jane Austen books for weeks 1 & 2. I think many of us already read the most popular (like P&P), so they won't use them for the challenge. And looking at the plans, it seems not many members here are interested in romances ;)
Welcome! We are currently on the funny book week (#8). You can start with that if you want to join the discussions and catch-up all along the year as there will be some light weeks and maybe short books. If not, you can read out of order and tell us your progress using your own plan (see the 2015 plans folder and create your own) :)
