Berit, for the moment, more/other mods are not really needed, the work is not too much tiresome (= editing titles, creating folders and linking books to the topics) and members are welcoming, eager to help and follow well the rules. We are open to ideas and suggestions, so feel free to create topics if you need, we'll look at them with interest ;)
For 2016, we'll see who want to moderate the group :)
Yes, I liked how the story is written and the pacing. I added another of her books in my TBR, so I'll see if it's just this story or if I'm enjoying the author's work. I'll have a look at your review :)
Welcome Kaitlin, Shannon and Shona :)Take your time to catch up with the challenge, the goal is to have fun. Don't forget to create your plans so we could see what books you're interested in!
Same for me. I hope the sequel will come this year, there are lots of questions about the characters! From the author's blog, on march 25: "I have handed in the hopefully-mostly-final-edits-till-the-copy-edit-stage of book two, The Masked City, and am now getting down to more writing on book three… ".
Ah, a classic. I never read it but I know a little the characters. It's a very old book so I hope the writing and the pace are good!
Have fun :)
Mar 28: The folder for week 21 is available (a book your parent loves). I'm not sure this will be a funny week, so tell us if your book is horrible ;)New poll: What week are you looking forward to the most in April? (Ends at: April 6th)
Later polls are still available, so don't forget to vote.
Week 21: a book your parent loves (the original challenge is "a book your mom loves" but feel free to widen the relatives if you need)
May 21 - May 27, 2015
This will be the ugly week. It will be painful, you'll suffer, water will come from your eyes because you're reading something horrible. But maybe you're a lucky one and you were given a good recommendation. Maybe too, your parent has good tastes in books or likes the same genres as you.
Tell us all about your suffering or pleasure this week!
How to Create a Topic:
1. Create a topic in the appropriate folder using your book's author and title (Title by Author, please). Link your book with the "This topic is about" feature.
2. In the body of your post, comment about why you chose this book. Have you read it before? What are your expectations?
3. Feel free to use the thread as a way to update the group on your progress. Also, when you are finished reading, add a small review and your thoughts about the week's challenge.
4. Comment on everyone else's posts as well! Participation and group involvement will make this challenge so much fun!
**If you chose the same book as another group member for the same week, do not create a duplicate thread.**
No suggestions, but if you can't have a recommendation by a parent for this week, ask here, someone will be glad to share a book with you :)
Finished! I enjoyed the book a lot and the characters :)India was warmful and colorful. Even if I disagree with the cast system, the male domination and the overall racism, it was well written by the author and she showed that things and mentalities can evolve.
Peter, I think the point of the week suggestions is to have new ideas. When you read something, it can give you a new interesting idea... So, I've no problem with a never ending list and we could do a selection later before running the polls (one like suggested before with a "submit your ideas" topic). My only worry is to have enough participations for the votes, so 2016 won't be decided only by 10 persons (which could be ok, but it could lack variety or unusual ideas).
Week 20 seems good, it will let us time to organize and adjust if the first topics/polls are messy and need some changes.
BTW, your post is huge :p
My book for the short stories wasn't really entertaining, happily my side-read P.O.W.ER was entertaining (maybe I find all the dystopia entertaining in fact :p).I found a new "cover book" yesterday (Compendium), I want so much a paper version of this one *__*
Christina > Select the book you want to read, nobody will bother you if it's not a perfect non fiction, true story or whatever! Books are wild things, they don't live in a category :DKate > I agree about the other genres (I'll read a photography book) and I think they fit better in the non fiction week because they are not as confusing.
I don't think a non fiction book should have fiction parts in it, so "stories about people" can be problematic if it's not an history book or a memoir. For The Lost Child, it's more a book based on a true story for me, as according the reviews, the writer made up discussions between characters. For The Blind Side, if it's a work with the main character, it's a memoir, so it's ok as non fiction, if the author worked all by himself and added things not found in documents or interviews, it's more something based on a true story.
If you want a book about people for non fiction, it's better to choose a memoir/biography written by the main character or with him. Otherwise, for me, it's based on true story, not non fiction.
Currently at 21%. I really like the main character for the moment, she feels real and it's entertaining to discover how she deals with the return in her birth country. The other characters are really colorful: the women are all a little crazy and invasive (it's funny) and I'd really wish to escape too if I was the heroine.
In addition, the writing is pleasant and it's well paced. It's not my usual genre of books but I'm enjoying the reading :)
Yes Berit, no worry, we'll read a monthly book but maybe as a "side read" because one of the great thing with the challenge is to choose each book. I keep this in mind because I'm really interested in it and it will be nice to vote each months for some books and read the winner. People who won't be interested in that could do the weekly challenge without being annoyed.I'll never succeed to find books from A to Z in the titles interesting me :p
Maybe we could add a folder for other challenges so members who want more than 52 themes could add some others to their weekly challenge or as side reads :)
