A book.
Oh, how can one simple item be so terrifying?
Those blank white pages,
Nothing to bathe it in black ink,
Only my pen-
Why can’t I think, think of anything?

That book.
Still sitting there, empty.
Empty as my pen,
The ink all used up,
And yet-
I am too scared.

Yes, that book.
Shove it away, save it for tomorrow,
Forget it, leave it, leave it be.
But each day I look upon it, it is so white, so blank-
I try, truly I try…
But I am a coward.

Oh, that book.
Still sitting there, day after day,
Dust settling on its covers,
Worms making homes between its pages.
Can I, will I?
Could I try?

Bring me that book.
Yes, that one,
The blank one, the empty one,
The one I was too scared to try.
But this time, this time I will.
I can, and I will.
