128924 Both Bram and Nick are suspicious to me. Nick seems to be a problem, certainly and likely to be the culprit, but we find this out early enough on to make me think Bram is the problem and not so much Nick.
128924 I am a good bit further on, in that I was rash to get the book on Hoopla and I now have just nine days left to read the last 40% of the book.

Not a spoiler, I hope, but doesn't Val seem, well, boring?
128924 Yeah, I was thinking of the "Bram" business as well. Too Dracula??
128924 Nick certainly seems hard to pigeon-hole. Overbearing, certainly, but then a bit too friendly.
128924 I got the book from Hoopla and have only 14 days left with it. Fortunately, I am well along through it! Moving slowly.
128924 The story so far seems very Hallowe'en oriented, which is nice.

128924 I think Clare doesn't have a long life as an investigator is she takes as many risks as she does!
128924 Is this Crepe Suzette?

128924 I finished last night and was certainly surprised. The person incorrectly fingered close to the end was my choice. I was so happy I was right! I guess it all made sense, though I have to admit that I lost track early on of who was who and never got back on track.
128924 I am good with Crypt Suzette. That makes three of us, I think. I can get it from Hoopla.
128924 I have two thoughts. Leslie Meier, whom we've read before and liked, Wicked Witch Murder. Also, some years ago, we read a book by Cleo Coyle, whose books are set in a coffee shop in NYC. Ms Coyle sent me (and perhaps others) a copy of her next book, and also joined the discussion. Latte Trouble is set in the fall, during Fall Fashion week in NYC.

128924 I've noticed quite a few.

I hope to finish soon. Life is busy right now! (But it always seems to be.)

128924 I'm not too far into this final section, but it seems to me that Claire didn't learn a thing after she was attacked, and is still putting herself and others into danger.

I understand that need for these kind of mysteries to have an intrepid protagonist, but this seems to be a little far-fetched. Especially since the Chief FINALLY acknowledges that Addie was murdered.

128924 Hmmm. The two different killers is an intriguing idea. But somehow connected??

128924 I just finished this second section and will start on the third in the next day or so. How fast the month is progressing!

128924 I honestly can't keep the various women friends apart from one another. There are four others than Claire who inherit the money, so they seem most likely, though none more than the other. Given the harshness of Gloria's murder, I suspect a man. And also the likelihood of anyone getting Addie to leave the house at night also seems more like a man. Perhaps Clay?

128924 I think there are more secrets to come!

128924 I think the secret from the past is what we still don't know. I wonder if the mayor got her pregnant long ago...

128924 I comment on the confusion of the characters in the next section.
Sep 14, 2021 03:28AM

128924 I'm well into this second section, so I thought I'd start the discussion. Much of this, as expected, involves the women in the process of investigation of the murder of Addie. They are remarkably not much into the death of the other woman (who's name I've forgotten--I wish there was a character list.) On the other hand, this leaves them free because the Chief stubbornly believes Addie was NOT murdered. Despite leaving a fortune to the five friends and who might be expected to be losing that when/if Addie has her baby and marries the baby's father.
