128924 I'm about 50+ pages into this already, and waiting for something to happen, crime wise. Since this is the 10th book in the series, I guess she is confident that her character is well known enough that the reader will not mind so much lead-in to what I assume will happen, perhaps on the train.

It is certainly a different sort of book than we typically read.
128924 I just got the message the book is in. Pick it up today and start this evening.

128924 Still waiting on mine, but start whenever you can and I will catch up.
128924 I can't say it was revealed too late nor done clumsily. It should have been apparent that her alibi could only be confirmed by her partner, and his by her.

128924 Still waiting on mine. I only made the request when we discussed this a few days ago. It may take a little while...

128924 I ordered February Fever from my library, should we go that way.
128924 Blue seems to be the feeling we had after viewing the adaptation.
128924 I don't think Christie believed people could change. Given that her husband just left her, I expect that feeling was even stronger.
128924 Actually, I think Lenox and Derek would make Mama very happy, as Derek has inherited all of Ruth's money.
128924 Papa Poirot, certainly, but he repeatedly called himself the "avuncular" towards Katherine, the "uncle".

Lennox changed a huge amount from the book. In the book, she was friendly but well aware and somewhat embarrassed over her mother's money-grabbing tendencies. Rightly so. Shows that Lennox was quite good at summing up people.
128924 Many points here. First of all, I agree that after daughter Rosalind died, the adaptations took a crappy turn. My only guess is that that horrid grandson wanted to turn Christie's books into something current audiences seem to like.

I also agree that there weren't sufficient clues in the TV version to figure out the murderer. In the book, they discussed who provided info and turned out to clearly point out two people were involved.

As we pointed out before, the book was a very solid one, with proper clues and believable characters. And if one thing was perfectly clear, Rufus would never have been considered as a murderer.
128924 Not really a spoiler, but at least the TV version didn't change the murderer.
128924 It has been so long since I read this the first time (probably 50 years!) I don't remember that at all.
128924 If this was indeed the same St. Mary Mead, then Miss M certainly would have known Miss Viner. Probably had tea and gossip with her as well. Though I don't know she would have approved of re-naming her maid!
128924 I re-read the (or rather re-listened to the audio) book and also watched the TV version. There were no end to the differences! Fortunately, the main plot of the story remained roughly the same.

As L-M noted, Christie did not like the book and in fact said "easily the worst book I ever wrote". I don't think anyone would agree with that--it is a very good, middle of the road Christie.

One extra interesting thing, Katherine lives in St. Mary Mead! No sign of Jane Marple either their or in Christie's writing yet, but clearly the name and type of village was in her mind.
128924 Glad you are feeling better.

128924 I'm fine with taking a break till Blue Train starts. Plenty to read anyway!

128924 I was wondering about the Anty Boisjoly books. I remember liking the first and knew there was a second, but not a third. Perhaps we could read one this year.

128924 That's the one!
