The village of St. Mary Mead is agog when Harry Laxton arrives with his rich and beautiful wife. Harry has always been a wrong 'un, but the indulgent people of the village are willing to forgive and forget (well, not Miss M) Harry in this case.
Harry buys the old house he grew up in, tears it down and builds a beautiful mansion. He and his wife meet the villagers one by one, and all seems happy. However the former caretaker's wife decides to curse the new couple for taking away her home, regardless of how well she has been set up by Harry. The new wife is totally scared.

I think, since the story is short, that I will have two posts where we can discuss the whole story, one with spoilers and one without.

I'll start on Sunday if everyone if ready

It does seem like a good plan to murder someone and put them into shark-infested waters! Not that I'd do that...

I'll host the first story, if that is OK with you all.

Yes, a lot of game changers in the last few chapters! I thought is was satisfying and clever enough not for many readers to have solved it.

Tina: Sounds wonderful!

How about discussing the "long lost" Miss Marple story. Not sure if it is in any collection. At this link in its entirety.

I am totally in for short stories. I have several collections of stories by different authors. Perhaps we could try something like that?

Honestly, still no memory. Which is good as I didn't predict the ending. I though Bijou had something to do with it and I was also suspicious of Brooklyn. He seemed too perfect to be innocent!
Eventually, when Sabine was located, I considered her as perhaps part of Bijou's entourage! After her hubby's death, I was sure of her guilt. But I never even thought of Elizabeth being her mother. I don't think I really thought of her being old enough for that.
I know we also read the first Rex Graves book, Murder at Christmas (or something like that). Tina, you were certainly with us at that point. Do you remember reading that one?

There are certainly a lot of mystery to come! I don't have any thoughts on the clothes being different or the horse drugs, or the mysterious non-chiropractor. And I am always leery of a cast-iron alibi, such as for Bijou!
I am further along than this section, so I don't want to spoil things. I was away for a long weekend with some friends and took the book along expecting to finish it. Well, I didn't spend even a minute reading it! I hope to finish today...

I, too have gained a bit and really need to take it off! I guess I am climbing out fairly well, because most of my close friends has new been double vaxxed more than two weeks ago. We are getting together for dinners at one another's houses and are able to hug one another after a excruciating year plus! Right now, I am with two friends in a trip about 140 miles from home, enjoying some touristy things, but safely. (Still masking up!)

Congrats on the new grad! The books like it was read before and I'm pretty sure we read it in the past. Perhaps, Tina, you remember it?
We read the first book in the series, where Rex was in a snowbound manor house at Christmas. We liked it enough to choose the next book in the series, which was then called Murder in the Raw.

I'm not sure I would do well at all in this sort of resort! Or keep my mind on the murder while staring at naked folks.

I am working though the book pretty quickly as I have other reading to to. About 75% through. There is a twist coming up! And STILL I don't remember any of this!

There are certainly no end to the possible suspects. Bijou sounds too powerful to have done it himself, though he may have paid someone else. I am always leery though, of the person who asked the detective to investigate.
(And I am over half way through the book and STILL nothing sounds familiar!)

I also am wary of bodies that are never found. Perhaps too much Christie!

A great idea!

I was happy to have a character list at the beginning. Unfortunately, it is not so convenient to get to on the kindle. I should switch over to the actual book, which is somewhere in the basement library!

No! I honestly don't remember anything about it other than Rex is at a nude resort. And I am enjoying it like it was the first time through.
