I started The Shining Girls on Apple+. Not at all as I remembered it - but I was thinking of another book. I went back and read my review from 2016 and the series seems to be exactly like the book was - confusing! I am hoping to catch whatever it was, in the series, that I missed when reading the book. I felt something was off in the book that I could never account for - hoping to find and explain it now. Have only watched two episodes so far.

I finished up Presumed Innocent on Apple+. Good series. It had been many years since I read the book and honestly did not remember the ending, just the overall premise. So I did not remember the twist. Thought the series was good and had some good stars in it.

Is this possible? There is something in development maned The Caretaker!
Could we be so lucky to get another Ron Rash book made into a film? Remember Serena?

May be a while, but I will keep track of this one...

Unbeknownst to me until I caught it during the credits of the movie - this movie is based off of a book. A 2 hour movie showing on MGM+ and also on Prime. Started out in the theater and won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Trivia ~~
When Cord Jefferson sent the prospective screenplay out to film companies, it was under the more provocative title of "Fuck". While this is a plot point in the film, it was never going to go out to theaters with a title like that so it was changed to American Fiction (2023), albeit quite late in the day, just prior to its premiere at the Toronto Film Festival.

Binged the series this weekend. Thought it followed the book pretty well - good adaptation. The characters were pretty much as I visualized them while reading the book. Felt it was worth my time.

I really don't like to read a book, then immediately watch the adaptation on film. For me about 6 months is a good time frame from book to show. I remember enough - the premise, but I dont tear the show apart for not being "exactly" like the book. (which really I don't expect anyway - a show is an adaptation of the book - not a word for word, scene for scene duplication!)

So I have watched the first two available episodes of Lady in the Lake on Apple+. The first episode I don't believe was all that good. I read the book a long time ago, but remembered almost nothing that was being shown in the series. I do remember that in the book the little girl was black - not white. By the end of the second episode it was the slightest bit better, but still I am not remembering much of the written book. Episode two ended well enough for me to go back and watch episode three - next Wednesday the 24th.

Apple reveals their episodes on Wednesdays - and this one is week to week not binge-able.

It sounds like Shogun has been nominated for the most Emmy awards of any other TV series this year.

Bad Monkey by Carl Hiaasen

Will start on August 14th showing two episodes with continuing episodes into October for a total of 10 episodes. On Apple+ TV

Storyline
Bad Monkey tells the story of Andrew Yancy (played by Vince Vaughn), a one-time detective demoted to restaurant inspector in Southern Florida. A severed arm found by a tourist out fishing pulls Yancy into the world of greed and corruption that decimates the land and environment in both Florida and the Bahamas. And yes, there's a monkey.

Loving this one - only one more episode to go. Will finish on the 24th

I will probably be a week or Trisha before I get started on that one. I am trying to clean up some old ones that I didn't watch when they were new - like Orange is the New Black and The Vikings and am staying current with newer ones like Mayor Of Kingstown and Presumed Innocent and Queenie. Completed The Bear and a couple others recently too. But I have to get back to reading also...sigh...never enough time.

I think this may be my next TV series. I read the book just after it came out and really don't remember much about it - maybe the show will remind me.

Read the book years ago, but have been watching the series episodes on Apple as they appear each Wednesday. Jake Gyllenhaal is playing a great part. I think 5 episodes out of 8 are now showing.

Finally IMDb has something on this one. Release to theaters on August 9th in the US. No word yet about streaming services. But the cast of characters are listed along with videos and still shots...

This will be an animated action fantasy movie, staring Maya Erskine, Carey Mulligan, and Mahershala Ali in production to be released in 2025... to a theater I am sure.

It’s the studio’s most ambitious movie to date about a secret forest in Portland, and boasts an epic battle sequence. No distribution has been announced, though there are plenty of streaming opportunities with Neflix, Amazon, or Apple.
