118012 The winner of this month's Classic Group Read poll fits with the genre of the month, as well - A Study in Scarlet, one of the Sherlock Holmes short novels. Book discussion can begin on August 1st.
118012 This month's genre is Crime/Mystery, and the winner of the Genre Group Read poll is The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Book discussion can begin on August 1st.
118012 Just finished this. Kafka certainly had an unusual and active imagination! I don't even know what to say about this. I enjoyed it, for the most part, although I thought the ending fizzled out a bit. It was just so... weeeeeird. I don't think I'm into surrealism, heh!

118012 Apparently I'm an INTJ. Interesting...

Now that you've put it that way, I agree, but I interpreted Michael's comment to be in reference to extroverts who say that they "can't survive" if they're not socializing in every spare moment. Everything in moderation - introverts need a little socialization every now and then, or their reclusive behaviour becomes a crutch and a way to avoid life, just as extroverts need some quiet alone time every once in a while to do some self-reflection, or their socializing becomes a crutch and a way to avoid themselves. If that makes sense?

Well said! It does seem that way.

118012 I've discovered the problem with my widget - I'd forgotten to add one of my books to the shelf I created for this group's challenge, so the widget on my personal page showed a different result from the widget on the group's page! Oops!

I'm one book ahead. :D
118012 Wow, this is interesting! I'm totally open to making this a challenge for next year. :)

Faye, I've always been curious about that book. Hope you enjoy ..."

Thanks, I enjoyed it very much! I would definitely recommend it. :)
118012 Goodreads has a lot of "Best Books of [year]" lists, and it got me curious - how many of the "best books" from the year you were born have you read?

To find out, click on the little arrow at the top of the Goodreads page next to "Explore." A drop-down box should appear, and in the list of things to explore, click on Listopia. On the Listopia page, click on the "search lists" text box and type in "Best Books of [year you were born]". A list of lists will come up. Every year is represented, as far as I can tell, but it might not be the first one on the list, so just keep scrolling down until you find it.

Or an easier way - simply Google "Goodreads Best Books of [year you were born]", and let Google do all the hard work for you. ;)

I was born in 1979, and for that year there are 73 books listed. Out of those 73 books, I have read... 1. Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. :P

I probably should have read a couple more of these by now, but most of them I haven't even heard of!

What about you? (You don't have to tell us your birth year if you don't want to!)

118012 I'm reading Lost Horizon, which is where Shangri-La came from. Utopia? Dystopia? Can't wait to find out...

118012 Do you use the Goodreads "bookshelf" feature, creating your own bookshelf tags to keep your books organized? Aside from "read" and "to-read", what is your biggest Goodreads bookshelf?

I use it, but I started out making my tags too general, and now instead of keeping me organized they're getting overly full and hard to search through. I need to do an overhaul at some point.

My biggest is british-literature, at 149 books. I seem to be somewhat addicted to the Brits!
