For me, it's looking like either
Shōgun or
Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress depending on how much time I can map out. I've wanted to read both for awhile. Or something by
Amy Tan because I love her books.

Any ideas on how what you'll pick?

I know! Savor these days!

Happy New Year, New Members!

Any last Shakespeare updates?

I read Catch-22! Also didn't find it funny. But I chalked it up to not having been in the army. Maybe it would have been funnier if I'd had similar experiences.

Lol! That could be a new mini-challenge!

This challenge will be found in the MINI CHALLENGE ARCHIVE for 2016 updates. Hope to see you among the 2017 Challenges!

Books for Christmas! What did you GET? What did you GIVE?

This is a great place to talk about the Good Reads Challenge that you can set on the main page. From Faye's Intro...
"When you enter a challenge on Goodreads and select a number of books to shoot for, you get your very own widget telling you how many books you've read and what percentage of your goal you have achieved so far. Depending on whether or not you're reading at a pace that will get you to your goal by the end of the year, this widget can reward you with positive feedback (Congratulations! You're # books ahead!) or pile on the guilt (Oh no! You're # books behind!).

I'm going with
The Man Who Would Be King, which I think is about a couple of Englishmen who decide they're going to move to some remote corner of Afghanistan to become "kings." An odd choice, I know, but it's been in my TBR for awhile.

Sewing Hope looks amazing. I read I am Malala and it was very interesting. What a brave family!

Happy New Year to us, every one!

Confession: The first time I read LHITBW was aloud to a classroom full of second graders. The language and cadence is just so beautiful that they hung in every word and couldn't wait for the next chapter. Also, hearing the details of life in those times was just so fascinating... And so weird... And so weird that it was true. It was a really great experience to enjoy the story both for the story itself and for the reaction of those 20th Century children.

Thanks to the readathon, I've finished off my reading year with some really fun little books. Mostly holidays romances and comedies. Just a perfect way to send out the old year.

Very impressive! You've had quite a year!

I may add a 50+ Challenge later in the year for those who complete this one.

*clapping* Great job! Was it good all the way through?

That's good to know, Rosemarie. My mom was a huge Michener fan, but so far I've only read half of The Source. Funny, because I usually enjoy her taste in books. I think you've just made up my mind. I definitely want to give the author another try.
