I had no idea when I started this challenge I would find poetry in a science fiction book but I did and loved it. The Salvage Crew by Yudhanjaya Wijeratne came onto my radar by a GR giveaway (I didn’t win). Saw it was on KU and decided I could work it into my monthly reading plan before Amazon removed it from KU.
I was intrigued by the idea of a main character, an AI, who wrote poetry to fill the time as an overseer of a salvage crew on a remote planet. Poetry is actually through out the story. It’s also a very good suspenseful and action oriented science fiction survival story on a remote planet.
What was equally amazing is that the author used an AI to generate the poetry for the book with only a few adjustments from him.
This is a debut from Sri Lankan author Yudhanjaya Wijeratne so I am looking forward to more books from him.

Theme of the month- Humor and/or World Fiction… a chance to finally read some of my translated books, hoping to read 5 books, mostly world fiction. Also two Color challenge books, three PIFM books, a couple group reads and some books I won in GR giveaways. All look promising so fingers crossed.
May you all have a happy and safe September!

If you are a big fan of the story you might like this reinterpretation. Set in the present it starts with Alice in a mental institution with another resident Mr Pillar getting her day passes to help solve a missing girls investigation with a suspect Cheshire. Is Alice just from the “Underground” (Wonderland) like many of the other characters hiding in the “real world”. Nancy Drew on an acid trip at times.
Imaginative but missed the mark for me.

That Spies book does sound very interesting. Thinking my 12+4 next year should have some sports books on the list.

Definitely adding this to my September reading list. I have read about her but sadly I have never read her work. Time to change that! Thank you Bill.
