Somewhere Beneath Those Waves Was Her Home by Sarah Monette ★★★★☆ A women helps a selkie find her skin. I’m glad they were also able to “free” the wooden maidens, but I was not clear what nefarious thing Ezekiel was doing there.
That’s a lot. Mostly, I remember Skinner from X-Files and a motley crew of assholes.Jon should have stayed dead the first time around J.
Abyssus Abyssum Invocat by Genevieve Valentine DNFEach to Each by Seanan McGuire ★★★★½
Finally! The future is the ocean and as such governments have started modifying women into fantastical creatures to claim the depths. Considered both poster children for the Navy, and freaks, the women leave more of their humanity behind with every modification. But instead of soldiers they may become a revolution!
Playing with Fire by Tess Wheeler ★★★★☆ “God sighed. He suppose he really had allowed things to get out of control.”
God, or the General Overseeing Developer, accidentally let those creature with opposable thumbs have access to fire. They have been nothing but trouble since and now their days are numbered.
Eve and the Fire by Stephen Leatherdale ★★★½☆ I’m not sure about this one. Was it a dream or a magical version of The Secret?
The Flame Games by K. Kris Loomis ★★★☆☆ Another children’s story about an adolescent female dragon who empathizes with her humans need for education and freedom.
The Trouble with Moonberries by Danielle Nolan ★★★½☆ A cute children’s story of an elf child that helps a baby dragon and saves his tree dwelling community.
Oooh, you’ve been making it through six. Did you not find it a strange shift after the end of five? I couldn’t get into it. Does it get better?
Entertainment of the Gods by Eleanor Hartley ★★★☆☆ A handsome wrestler is taken in by the God Hephaestus. Doriskos models and cleans up after his god. This read like a short story intro to a series on Doriskos.
On a whim I watched Armageddon again. It made me laugh, and weep, even after all these years. I guess that’s the difference between a great action movie and an epic action movie.
Persuasion is getting the diversity reimagining and this time it’s not just black and white: https://youtu.be/vU1GyCtLKzc
My favorite fantasy weapons are tattoo weapons, like the forearm shield in Constantine. I would also have a long sword tattoo at my back and daggers tattoos down the outside of my calves.
Thomas Ligotti is beyond doubt one of the Grandmasters of Weird Fiction. In The Grimscribe’s Puppets, Joseph S. Pulver, Sr., has commissioned both new and established talents in the world of weird fiction and horror to contribute all new tales that pay hoame to Ligotti and celebrate his eerie and essential nightmares. Shirley Jackson Award Winner for Best Edited Anthology 2013
I can’t decide on that one. It just looks like so many of the Marvel movies, which slowly built up their character stories, with The Mummy thrown in. What do you think?
Oh dear, that I did not know. The Addams family were never overtly supernatural. Well… besides Thing.
