116885 The blank sheets of pardons he left his assassin nephews.
His term in office where he did not want to hire any women.
An entire novel vilifying the environmental movement.
Making Jack out as the richest guy to ever be president.
Yes, definitely a change a tenor.

116885 I liked them until Rainbow Six, then I thought he went downhill into ultra conservative rhetoric. The Jack Jr one I tried to read didn’t make me happy either. I’m going to do a reread of the Jack Ryan series as GR has it with the new ghost written ones. We’ll see how far I get.

Joe Ledger started strong then turned into unpleasant cartoons.

116885 Fiona, what do you think happened at the end of Inselberg?

116885 Drowned by Lavie Tidhar ★★★☆☆
Pleasant postdiluvian folktale origin story.

The Future is Blue by Catherynne M. Valente ★★★☆☆
Imagine Waterworld built on the Pacific Garbage patch. It’s a rough world but Tetley has found happiness and can’t understand why others would trade their current joys for hope (false hope?).

I’m not sure if this is a commentary on the current obsession with colonizing Mars or just a general climate change warning story.

Female Sam from Supernatural looked so much like Jaime Alexander to me I had to find a photo and share.

Is that what it feels like in Australia these days? I don’t watch the news anymore but I get Smithsonian articles daily, it’s usually history but I saw one of a mob in Bristol taking down a statue and throwing it in the river or ocean. Has there been such things there? The feeling of the present trying to rip apart the past instead of obsoleting it?

116885 I wasn’t sure about that one either.

116885 Inselberg Nalo Hopkinson ★★★☆☆
A four eyed tour guide leads the unprepared around the flooded ruins. I think everyone dies at the end?

Only Ten More Shopping Days Left Tull Ragnarök by James Morrow ★★★☆☆
That was an odd one. By killing off the excess of cynicism, and a few key executives, by means of intuit mythology the world turns the corner.

Last Gods by Sam J. Miller ★★★★½
“I stood there, shivering and wet beneath a useless sun, and watched my Gods abandon me.”
A post apocalyptic water world has chosen new gods and their acolytes must sacrifice to keep the new world order, to keep the peace.

Regardless of belief.

I read this one in Clarkesworld and remembered it immediately from the title. It’s just a whale, no more no less, but...

116885 Oh I’m so glad you liked Who Do You Love! It’s my favorite so far.

116885 That is just too cold! I use a heated blanket when it gets cold, I rarely turn on the heater. The dogs have knitted sweaters or they can cuddle. Cats don’t like cuddles imposed.

116885 I cleaned the garage this morning then went to a 90 minute hot yoga class. When I got to my car it said 104° and I still had errands. I cut that to one errand came home showered and called myself lucky for surviving too many bad decisions. It’s just too hot. I can’t even think when it’s this hot. I’m lying down with an ice pack listening to another In Death book, because I just can’t think about anything right now. I’ll be back to finish this soon.

116885 Destroyed by the Waters by Rachel Swirsky ★★☆☆☆
Profoundly boring. I had to give it three go’s to get to the end.

The New Venusians by Sean Williams ★★★☆☆
Half asleep from the previous story I did not fully appreciated this one. It was about a girl visiting her grandfather on Venus just as he does something momentous.

Was he against terraforming? Was that the point?
