“I’m sorry, it’s just so many people are telling me how to act, and I don’t know what I want. I suppose I was just caught a little off guard, you know, I didn’t really expect that from a prince,” Dwynwen answered truthfully. She felt venerable, this was the most honest she’d been with anyone out here. She couldn’t decide if telling him this was the right thing to do or not, but she really needed someone to talk to. “My grandmother raised me to be a proper lady, but that’s not who I used to be...” she stopped there. She refused to tell anyone her story, and she wasn’t going to blow it now with a bratty conceited prince.
Dwynwen and the prince raced to the fountain, touching it at the exact same time. Dwynwen collapsed to the ground out of breath. “So it’s a tie, then?” She said, “How do we settle this?”
Dwynwen smiled, “I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve,” she said, keeping her voice down. She ran as fast as she could, barreling through the doors and out to the fountain. Her legs felt heavy and her lungs felt small, but she was determined to beat Evermony to the fountains. She knew if she didn’t win, she’d never hear the end of it. ((Let’s switch rooms now))
Dwynwen winked in agreement. She had a good reputation with the queen, and she didn’t want to ruin it. She sped ahead and shot him a glance, planting a sheet of ice at his feet to trip him up.
“We’ll see about that!” She shouted playfully, sending more and more snowballs at him. She dashed down the corridors, paying no mind to her childish and improper behavior. She was having fun! For the first time here, she was having fun. Wasn’t that more important than some petty selection or royal event?
((Okay thanks)) Dwynwen smiled, “I suppose you’re not so bad yourself. Shall we continue by the fountain?” she asked, not wanting the queen to question the destruction of her room. “I’ll race you there!” She shouted, pelting a snowball at him and racing down the hall.
‘A gladiolus...’ she thought, ‘How did he know?’ “Not so fast,” she said, freezing the flower in midair. It dropped to the ground and she quickly formed a vase made of ice for it to fall into. She smirked at him, challenging him for more.
Now Dwynwen was furious, and a tiny part of her a bit giddy. She didn’t know why, and she was mad at herself for it. Dwynwen smiled “Oh, I was just taking it easy on you,” she said, sending ice up from the floor surrounding him on all sides with the snap of her fingers. It was an easy spell, but he didn’t need to know that.
This was horribly un-prince-like of him. All the girls spoke so highly of him, but he was a brat! She flung the door open in frustration, the look on her face telling him that she didn’t just do it because he asked. She heard out a hand, everything inside her was screaming ‘No!’ But she was horrified at the prince’s behavior. She sent a ball of ice rocketing into the prince’s chest, not enough to do any damage, but just the right amount so that he was throttled into the wall behind him.
Dwynwen was shocked when he heard the prince’s voice. Half of her wanted to walk away, the other half wanted to bite her tongue and act like a proper gal, but all of her was furious. “Now is that how you’re supposed to treat a lady?” She shouted through the door. She had planned on apologizing to the prince herself and making amends, but this was horribly rude.
Dwynwen had been doing her hair, when she heard a knock at the door. She assumed it was her maid, but she usually had a cheerful knock, this knock sounded quiet and cautious. She stood up, smoothed out her dress and opened the door. Standing in the doorframe was Prince Evermony himself! Shocked she felt her eyes widen, ‘Why would he be here? I thought I scared him away!’
