“I... I believe I’ve come down with a cold. Sometimes my powers get out of whack when I’m sick,” she lied. She knew she was a terrible liar, and while many elementals did loose control of there powers when they were sick, most Selected girls were chosen because of their incredible skills with their powers, and most strong elementals didn’t get power fits when they were sick. She let out a delayed cough to seal the deal, but she knew it wouldn’t work. ((I have to go ty for rping))
Dwynwen’s eyes darted up and filled with shock. She quickly realized what a horrible mess she and the prince had made. Her expression softened as if to say “I’m so sorry!” But a giggle pulled at the corners of her lips. “I... I can explain,” she said, trying to think of an excuse. No one would ever believe or want to believe that the prince and a Selected girl had made such a mess of a room.
@redqueen you are welcome to join us but I’m not sure exactly where your character would fit into the scene. Who do you have?
Dwynwen came into her room to relax after a long day. She eyed the flower still frozen in the vase on the floor. There was a small pool of water around it, but it still held its shape. Dwynwen picked up the flower and eyed it carefully, memories of the fun she’d had with the prince dancing through her mind. “A gladiolus, how did he know?” She asked herself again, under her breath. She was mystified and a little suspicious, but thankful all the while.
“That’s very interesting, I love listening to stories,” Dwynwen said. She gave a sad smile at how it would feel for the selection could end so quickly and to be the one who the prince fell in love with. “I better be on my way now,” she said standing. “Thank you for talking with me.” She curtsied and exited, thankful for the time spent with the queen.
“Yes, indeed,” Dwynwen agreed. “Well, I should be on my way soon, but I have one more question if you don’t mind.” She said. Dwynwen couldn’t tell if she was asking too many questions, but the queen didn’t seem to mind. “What was the Selection like when you were in it?”
“Ah, yes,” Dwynwen said, “there are several girls that I think he will have trouble choosing from. And for good reason, not bad.” Dwynwen remembered the words that had been passed around the kingdom. Pearl and Natalia stood an amazing chance. She let out a small sigh. She thought that her and the prince had made a connection, but she was starting to doubt that it amounted to anything. She told herself to stop playing pitty, and be appreciative of the time she did have with Evermony.
“I understand,” Dwynwen said. It didn’t seem fair to the prince, but he did have a lovely selection of girls to chose from. “You shan’t worry about it, there are several girls whom I think he has taken a liking to. I couldn’t imagine him not picking one of us, I was just curious.”
Dwynwen half-smiled, appreciating the queen’s compliment but not how she talked about the other girls. The other girls were very kind and sure they didn’t observe manners as well as her, but they probably didn’t have as much experience. Changing the subject, Dwynwen asked, “Pardon, but I have a question about the Selection.” She didn’t know if she should ask, but the words left her mouth quicker than she realized, “What happens if the prince doesn’t choose any of us?”
Dwynwen nodded in appreciation to the queen. “Why, thank you,” she said, “I am very appreciative for the ladylike skills that my grandmother taught me.” Although, as she said the words, Dwynwen questioned if they were true. What if her grandmother hadn’t taught her to be proper and rather encouraged her to continue her life as a warrior? She shook the thought away. That was her old life, this was her new life. Why should she want anything else?
Dwynwen was taken aback by the queen’s reaction. “Pardon me if I upset you, your highness,” she said, sincerity in her eyes. “I was only inquiring, I mean no malice, truly.”
“How is the selection sitting with you?” Dwynwen asked, taking a seat in a nearby chair, “It must be hard seeing your son all grown up choosing a lady to be the next queen.” Something about the selection felt wrong to Dwynwen, there was a piece that didn’t quite fit. It didn’t seem right for the prince to only have twelve girls to choose from whom he had no prior experience with.
Dwynwen entered the Women’s Room and politely curtsied to the queen. “Greetings, your majesty. Lady Dwynwen at your acquaintance. How are you doing today?” She said, with air in her voice and proper poise. Even after the fun she had with the laid-back prince Evermony, she knew to be respectful and regal with the queen. She smiled, remembering the fun she had with the prince the day before. She was thankful to have positive memories with him, and not the ones she had before.
