As an African myself, and as a person who has read lots of Ethnocentric accounts of non-Africans in Africa, I was thoroughly impressed at Kapuscinski's ability to try to understand the differences in culture without being judgmental. Very refreshing to see.

I'm not going to be on here much for a while until I get things sorted. School is so busy and I'm also currently looking for a new job. On top of that an old friend passed away today (on her birthday:() so I'm feeling quite overwhelmed by life at the moment. I will be back to moderating duties in a week or so.

It really is, Gill. The Native Canadian education system was so different from the Western one, yet it was very effective!

I'm reading
Shingwauks Vision by J.R. Miller, which is a book on the history of residential schools in Canada. It is absolutely intriguing (and also sad). Native Canadians have such a rich culture.
