During the fi..."I thought so Bette - it must've been amazing luck for the cow to live. My cousin once hit a deer (much smaller and much less weight), and the damage was enormous .. to the deer and the car. :(
Raul wrote: "Reading Pride and Prejudice and marvelling. It's incredible how Austen develops the plot through conversations."A wonderful book Raul! Austen's wit is sharp, and I love her commentary on the gender politics and drawing room society of her day.

I hope the cows keep out of the flower beds in future!

It might make me laugh if it weren't so dangerous for the cow and more importantly for your husband!!!

The book will live on because it speaks of human behavior - he intended it to comment on communism, but I think that's practically tangential now. These sorts of human behavior exist in every culture in the world to some degree today - political advertising, manipulation, grandstanding on different sides of the political spectrum - it happens everywhere - and the workhorse ends up taking the load.

Colleen wrote: "I just started this and so far so good. Will love to look back on this thread and read all your insights. Better late than never!"I really loved this book Colleen - hope you enjoy it! :)

Over lunch I went through some of my to-read books and discovered something: if you add a book as to-read and later when reading it, accidentally mark currently reading on a different edition of the same book, the to-read book will end up on both lists .. one as to-read but not read and the other read and not to-read!
So I had several duplicate books on my to-read list that I had already read. I cleaned up some of those. Lots of good books on the list I still haven't read though - I just need to remember to actually look at it! :)

I have my copy but probably won't start for about a week.

Here's where we can talk about our November group fiction read, the modern classic
The Master and Margarita by
Mikhail Bulgakov.

We have had lots of trick or treaters tonight! So much fun being a part of making the neighbors' families happy. I remember doing this with Dylan years ago too - that makes it even more fun!
This is my first Halloween in a house. So much better than the gated apartment was! :)
