Glad you liked it Raul! I remember "Company of Wolves" as a standout too.

I'm so sorry to hear that Terri - that can't be easy

Thanks Joan! - yes, it seems very 'Day of the Dead' inspired to me. It reminds me of the sugar skuls I've seen.

I'll read your link after work - you always post interesting links!!

I seem to always end up with ginger cats too, though the allergist tells me orange cats tend to cause more alergy reactions. Isn't that weird? I don't know whether to believe him, but Doyle isn't going anywhere. :)

This one sounds intriguing Patty!

Interesting. I didn't realize, until now, that my review, etc, of this book didn't make it over in any of my transfers from Shelfar..."

A great review Karin! We had very different reactions, but you explain your experience of the book well.

110440 A few pics of Halloween decorations we put up - no heading into work this weekend; I decided that no matter what, I needed a short break!

Haha Natalie, I think he's more just trying to get front & center to maximize the attention he gets. :)

It's such a raw poem Terri! I see in it all the confusion and anger of losing an imperfect person that one nonetheless loves deeply. We don't love a person because they are perfect; we love them because we love them. Then we lose them to death, and we are left with the good and the bad, but what wouldn't we give to get them back flaws and all, exactly as they were.

I had never heard of this poet before, but I see she won the Pulitzer as well as being a talented violinist. A talented woman!

Ha! My general physician collects those old snake oil and magic pills and has some of the old bottles and jars displayed in glass cases in her office. It's a piece of history!

Of course even now people with a serious illness and a poor prognosis will often try outlandish "cures." It's very sad how other unscrupulous people sometimes get wealthy through such swindles.

Definitely Myst! Different countries especially have very different curriculums. I love hearing what people in other countries read in their literature HS classes. I've made great discoveries that way. Luckily, many at work were originally born in other countries, from India to Taiwan to Iran.

110440 Anyone interested in a buddy read of any of these next month?

The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga

Cane by Jean Toomer (work of the Harlem Reniassance)

The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell

On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century by Timothy Snyder

When We Were Orphans by Kazuo Ishiguro

I own all of these and would like to read one of them next month.
