Citrus always reminds me of Christmas - that and brown sugar and mixed spice are all guaranteed to make me want to put the tree up and start singing carols! So am very happy now that I have 5 jars of orange and lemon marmalade and a house that smells delish!

Yeah me too, but still very vague, I quite often don't realise how soon it is until it's right on top of us and then go into panic mode! Try to be organised but am very easily distracted.

Lol, sorry I couldn't help it - I'm like one of those annoying kids bouncing up and down in their seats when they know the answer ;)
I'd like to get round to reading Marcus Aurelius' 'Meditations' and Boethius 'Consolation of Philosophy' one day Hilary - we will have to have a readalong sometime! (With a lot of help from Wikipedia and whatever else I can dig up on the net to help me understand them!)

Hello folks, how is everyone? I haven't been around so much due to stupid long split shifts but I'm not in till 5 today so making a batch of St Clements marmalade and the whole house smells citrusy - yum!

It is a lovely poem by the way, I don't share the beliefs but some of those mystic's wrote beautiful stuff.

He came from a mixed religious family (mother a Christian, dad a Pagan - although he converted on his deathbed) and he had a pretty hedonistic lifestyle - his famous prayer from his earlier life was 'grant me chasity and continence, but not yet!' Then he converted when he was about 35, abandoning his mistress and his 17 year old son to concentrate on being one of the early church's most influential thinkers. And that's Laurel's history lesson for the day ;)

Oooh I thought I'd read it somewhere before! Never mind, it's very funny and definitely good enough to have twice ;)

Lol - you've got enough to be getting on with without listing them twice Lee!

I think it merits being included in the list for the effect it's had on literature, films and popular culture in general. You don't even have to have read it to know what someone means when they say the word 'Frankenstein' even if a lot of people nowadays probably think that's the name of the monster rather than the monster's creator. I enjoyed it but it's been ages since I read it- might be due for a re-read!

Welcome to the group Sarah :)

Ouch! Hope your foot's ok Ellie.

Yeah me too, the it's similar in feel to the book, quite slow but creepy as well. I'm really enjoying it.

Here's what I could find - there's not a lot but they have cast strange and norrell and starting to film soon:

News Flash!!!! The BBC are doing an adaptation of Jonathon Strange and Mr Norrell!!!! Yay!!!!
Just thought I'd let everybody know... (although I might be a bit late and you all already know but who cares cos it's really exciting!)

I've put Dracula to one side for now as I have a load of library books to get through before they have to go back. So am reading
Let the Right One In and also
Prince of Thorns.

Yeah, one of my favourite episodes even though I'm not that fond of the series' with Amy and Rory. I need to catch with it as I haven't watched the last 2 series' and want to do that before I watch the 50th anniversary one.

Hope it's a easier week for you next week Ellie! I'm working in a restaurant so it's going to get crazy busy from now on with the run up to Christmas - but I love this time of year so it's ok ;)
Enjoying spending time with the puppy Joy!

I LOVED the episode of Dr Who that Neil Gaiman wrote - it was brilliant, he should definitely write more of them.

Or the walnuts!

Yeah that bit (in your spoiler) was written brilliantly and so was the game
(view spoiler)[ I really thought for a second they were actually beating Bastard up instead of just pretending (hide spoiler)]. Really enjoyed it, I gave it 4 stars in the end.
I also read somewhere (maybe one of the reviews) that the first chapter, Hitting Budapest, was originally a short story that had won a prize or something. It was certainly a very good opening chapter.
