Yes it's had some really good reviews - I did kind of like it, it wasn't really bad but it just was kind of lukewarm - nothing I could get worked up about so I don't really get all the rave reviews and award nominations.
Well, I've had a great time mucking about in the kitchen - made two kinds of truffles (one lot with cinnamon and chilli in them and another lot flavoured with earl grey tea) and three types of fudge - maple pecan, coffee and almond, and because I couldn't find any cherry brandy in Tesco's - cherry sourz fudge! Needless to say, I'm gonna have to get back to the gym ;)Hope you've all had a nice Monday!
There's some interesting looking books on here, I like the way the longlist is chosen - much more democratic and less 'establishment' - appeals to the closet Marxist in me lol!
I see, quite fancied getting round to Ivanhoe one day but will stick with the journals for now - have you got these in a hard copy or are you getting them from the web?
I've never listened to a audiobook before - might try this though, they are in 15 mins episodes so hopefully won't drift off
I haven't read anything by her but would like to try. I know Lee gets the monthly authors from the Bloomsbury Good Reading Guide but I'm sure she will probably be in their somewhere so maybe we could have her as a monthly author? Or if not, perhaps a readalong of one of her books??
The biography she wrote of Dickens himself was a lot more balanced though, I really enjoyed it when I read it last year. It got me out of my fear of biographies so looking forward to reading the one about Sam.
Jhumpa Lahiri's 'The Lowland' is BBC radio 4's Book at bedtime if anyone is interested. It's on at 22:45 monday nights although they keep it on the website for a week if you miss it. Started last Monday.
they both sound very interesting - I was thinking about getting the Claire Tomalin book myself to put this in some kind of a context for me.
Glad you're feeling better Hilary, and that sounds like fun Lee. I'm still at work today (12-9) and had a busy, long shift yesterday (I'd not been in long when I posted my last comment) - I am off tomorrow though so will be doing some serious sleeping and catching up on my reading and might make some chocolate truffles ;)

I am soooo glad you two posted those comments - I found myself doing the exact same thing the other day.... thought I was losing the plot!
Journey Around My Room sounds very good Lee, I will have to out it on the tbr list. Have started reading Good To Be God by Tibor Fischer but haven't got very far yet so can't tell really.
Yeah, I read bits of the intro when I was at uni for part of my course but that's about it. So will definitely have to make an effort and get it read, maybe in the new year we can have some 'Classic's' readalongs and get them read!
