“Oh but I do. I shouldn’t run away when I’m sad or angry. I shouldn’t take my feelings out on others. I shouldn’t hide secrets from my friends.” Ash paused.
Ash shook her head. “Don’t be sorry. You can’t stop it. Trust me, we’ve tried.” She gestured to Melody and Xavier. “I am used to it and it’s best that way. I’ve gotten...vulnerable...these past few days and that just makes it hurt more. Putting up defenses it the best way for me to cope.” She hugged Fiona. “But if I’ve got strong and true friends by my side, I know I can weather any storm.”
Ash sighed. “I’m sorry.” She shook her head. “Would you be alright if every day, you get picked on, get bullied, get treated terribly? Would you be alright if you thought you made a friend, but then you mess up and lose them? Would you be alright if you were the outcast, the one never fitting in?” Ash stopped and closed her eyes, slightly surprised by her own outburst. “It’s fine. I’m fine. I’m used to it by know. With enough time, you can get used to anything.” She looked down at the sea, so far below.
Ash nodded. “Yes, I was the girl with the papers and yes, I’m fine.” She said the last bit a little too forcefully. Melody moved up to her. A small cloud nudged at Ash’s foot.
Ash turned to Fiona. “Only if I can give you one back.” She hugged Fiona, grateful to have a friend. She looked at Serenity. “I remember you.” She said in a low voice. “How could I forget?”
Ash didn’t respond. She glanced at Fiona, then looked back at the moon. Finally, she spoke. “Took you guys long enough.” She said to Melody and Xavier, her voice low and deep. “I knew you’d come.”
Xavier and Melody followed. The wall shut behind them with a soft click. The room was large. One side was the dark cliff wall and the other three were walls of glass, arranged in random, beautiful shapes with no pattern. The room was neat and clean, barely any furniture decorated it. Instead, it was overrun by nature. Straight ahead was a balcony facing directly out to sea. There are strong vines climbing the house and all over the balcony. On the balcony, with their back turned to them, was Ash. She was leaning on the railing, wistfully looking at the moon and the sea.
[[Woah! That was funny! I didn’t see that Ava replied before I posted and mine worked perfectly with it! Cool!]]
Melody giggled. This was the part seeing people never got. She was blind and didn’t rely on sight to tell her what seemed to be real. She could feel the soft breeze coming through the wall. In fact, it wasn’t a wall anymore. It was an illusion and all it took was a step of trust. “Go ahead.” She said softly.
Finally, everyone was assembled at the top. “Ready?” Melody asked. She created a small cloud full of rain and lightning. It did not let loose it’s water though and the lightning seemed to be trapped inside.Beside her, Xavier waited. Usually he used his power, but he did not want to reveal it.
Melody’s cloud ventured along the wall and suddenly disappeared into it. There was a hidden compartment that only her clouds could penetrate. With a small click, the wall made no move. It looked exactly the same. Nothing had changed.
Xavier was only halfway up the stairs. “I’m... coming!” He called from around the corner.Melody rolled her eyes. “C’mon! Ash’s room is the next level up.” She took the stairs two at a time.
Xavier groaned when he heard Melody running again.
One Melody reached the top, she stopped in front of a blank wall. There were no latches or hinges. Nothing to make it open. It looked like a normal everyday wall.
Xavier groaned and huffed and puffed up the stairs after the two girls.Melody reached the fourth floor. It opened up into a huge ballroom. Three walls were painted a dark blue and the third was made purely of glass and looked out onto the sea. The only source of light was the bright moonlight glinting off of the sea.
Xavier ran up behind them panting. “Slow... down...” He gasped. Melody took one look at him and darted up the next flight of stairs. She giggled evilly.
Xavier brought up the rear. He had to take the steps by two to keep up.Melody stopped on the third floor. “Isn’t this place so pretty?” The stairway opened up into a huge dining room. The table was long, but curves sort of like an s. The whole room was ocean themed. Everything there had been taken from the sea right at their doorstep.
“Let’s check her room. She might’ve gone in there while we were out.” Xavier suggested. This got a snort from Melody. Melody turned around and headed for the stairs. She knew the house so well she didn’t need to stop and figure out where things were. “Are you comin’?” She asked the two. She was already at the second level.
Xavier tried to hold in his laugh but it came out like a strangled snort. “Hang around with her long enough and you'll meet them. But I don’t think you want to. They are the meanest, most viscous little things ever!”
Xavier shook his head, sending water flying everywhere. “Yeah, that’s Melody alright. I probably forgot to tell you, Melody’s rabbits are super scary.” He chuckled.
