1056220 Phew! Got at least one in - I did November's award winner - Silver in the Wood by Emily Tesh - winner of the 2020 World Fantasy Award for Best Novella. I absolutely loved it. Very quick read - whimsical and magical. There's a 2nd book in the series so I plan on reading that too.

1056220 Loved this challenge and look forward to doing it again next year. One thing I might do differently is choose all the books at the beginning of the year - and change it if I feel like when the month comes.

1*** Didn't complete May and June - couldn't concentrate on reading those months - caught up in a pandemic funk.
2*** August was so the hardest month for me to find something that fit the challenge - but so happy I randomly came across When We Were Vikings which was pretty good.
3*** Faves included The Girl in the Tower (that series is sooo good).
4*** Least favorite - probably Night Shadow by Nora Roberts - I rolled my eyes too many times at the romance tropes.

1056220 Challenge Completed - I actually ended up reading The Haunting of Tram Car 015, by P. Djèlí Clark. Loved it! This is a short novella which I listened to as an audiobook. It's about the haunting of a tram car BUT this book is set in an alternate history setting of Cairo in 1912 - where magic and magical creatures have been released into the World.

I would say then do the "winter themed" part - think either has a winter setting, winter in the title or winter theme on the cover. Not sure if you like Fantasy - if you do Spinning Silver and The Bear and the Nightingale are excellent.

I read it last month and completely agree - slow burner ... and it was interesting to see the direction it went (with the mushrooms)
