The Toys of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe ★★★★★Catalogs every action figure ever put out. Great stuff.
Usagi Yojimbo Saga, Vol. 1 ★★★★★I never thought I'd enjoy a series about a wandering rabbit ronin, but I'm happy to be proved wrong.
Spy Island ★Complete garbage. Clearly released only to try and get a movie deal.
Jimbo: Adventures in Paradise ★I couldn't make it past the first 20 pages or so. The line work is so busy and overwhelming.
First Team: A Marvel: Xavier's Institute Novel ★★★★This may have been the best prose Marvel novel by Aconyte yet. It follows one of the younger X-Men, Anole, and his friends Cipher, Graymalkin, and Rockslide as they are menaced by the Purifiers.
Kill Whitey Donovan ★★★A revenge story set during the Civil War that takes its sweet time to reveal why these girls are looking for revenge.
The Hunt Is On (Seekers of the Aweto, #1) ★★★★The colored pencil art in this is just gorgeous. Bright, vibrant but subtle colors with a great use of white as negative space. This reads like traditional Chinese folklore.
Earth Boy ★★★An uneven story about the first human accepted into Galactic Rangers school.
Youth Season One ★Good lord, the art is terrible in this and the story is hardly any better.
Natan Sharansky: Freedom Fighter for Soviet Jews ★★★★★Natan Sharansky was not someone I was familiar with. I was a child while he was a prisoner in a Russian gulag, basically for nothing more than being Jewish and protesting their treatment in Russia.
Black Heroes of the Wild West ★★★★A short graphic novel perfect for kids focusing on three people proving it wasn't only white men who tamed the Wild West.
The Black Ghost Season One ★★A terribly uneven story about a alcoholic journalist who becomes an awful, drunk vigilante.
James wrote: "Howdy all, my name is James and I'm a relatively new book reviewer from Wisconsin.I was injured at work quite a while ago and haven't been able to work a regular 9-5 since and I do a lot of readi..."
Welcome James.
Gert and the Sacred Stones ★★★A solid fantasy adventure for kids.
Curtiss Hill ★★★Gorgeous sepia-toned artwork in this story about two race car drivers in pre-war America.
The Orville Season 2.5: Launch Day ★★★★Missing Star Trek: the Next Generation? Well then you should really check out The Orville. It's continuing what ST:TNG did best, but adding in more social commentary and a few jokes along the way.
Tales From The Umbrella Academy : You Look Like Death ★★★Klaus gets his own miniseries with an introduction by the actor who plays him.
Everything Volume 1 ★★A slow burning, Twin Peaks like story about a department store moving into Holland, MI in 1980.
Everything, Vol. 2: Black Friday ★★★I did like this graphic novel that closes out the series better than its predecessor miniseries. We get the big answers about what is going on.
Cyberpunk 2077, Vol. 1: Trauma Team ★★★Reminded me of The Raid set in a cyperpunk world. There are these trauma teams that are part extraction groups, part EMTs.
Bill & Ted are Doomed ★★★Evan Dorkin returns to Bill & Ted in a series that bridges the gap from Bogus Journey to Face the Music.
Freaks of the Heartland ★★★Trevor looks after his little brother Will who is treated like a dog by his father. Will is some kind of hulking mutant. When his father decides to take care of Will once and for all, the boys go on the run.
Bandette, Volume 2: Stealers Keepers! ★★★★★I adore Bandette. Full of 6o's kitsch, Bandette is clearly inspired by Audrey Hepburn. This book is so much playful fun.
Lovesickness: Junji Ito Story Collection ★★★Lovesickness is about a town obsessed with having its fortunes told. The local lore is that you stand at an intersection and ask the first person you meet for your fortune. Fortunes begin to go horribly wrong when a teenage boy starts giving bad fortunes.
Otter Lagoon ★★★★A graphic novel for kids set on an island in the Pacific Northwest that is a magnet for strangeness.
Martian Ghost Centaur ★★★A story about growing up and finding your passion in life. Set in a small Northern CA town known for sasquatch sightings.
Autobiographix (Second Edition) ★★★★True stories in black and white comics told by the creators themselves.
Thirsty Mermaids ★★★Three mermaids run out of beer while they are drunk and get the bright idea to become human so they can go on dry land and get more beer. No they are trapped as humans and must learn how to support themselves.
Post York ★★A short story about a young man living in a New York City flooded by melting polar ice caps. The story is told how three minor alterations could cause the story to veer in drastically different directions.
Averee ★★★A social commentary on a near future scenario where a social ranking app controls what things you have access to in life.
Snow Angels: A Short Story ★★★A little, prose, teaser story set in the world of Lemire's new Snow Angels comic drawn by Jock.
Getting It Together, Volume 1 ★★Tries real hard to be a Millennial Friends.
Big Girls, Vol. 1 ★★★In the near future, a virus has caused some boys to mutate into giant kaiju nicknamed "Jacks" while the girls sometimes grow to gargantuan proportions as well.
Inkblot, Vol. 1 ★A cat travels through time and space often visiting a family of sibling sorcerers at random points in their lives. There's barely a story here.
Friend of the Devil ★★★★★Brubaker and Phillips tackle the Satanic Panic of the 70's and 80's in their new Reckless GN. If you like your noir sun-soaked by the California sun, then this is the book for you.
The Scumbag, Vol. 1: Snowblower Indemnity ★★Begins as Rick Remender's parody of old school SHIELD / HYDRA. Instead of Nick Fury getting the Infinity Formula, a useless piece of crap accidentally shoots it up instead. This was exhausting to read.
Mike Mignola: The Quarantine Sketchbook ★★★★★A collection of the sketches Mignola sold to raise money for the World Central Kitchen. Those sketches have raised over $325K and the profits of this book will go to the charity as well.
Covid Chronicles: A Comics Anthology ★★★★★A fantastic anthology of true stories about the current pandemic.
The Oligarch ★★★A solid story about a Russian oligarch wrongly imprisoned. The prison is attacked and he escapes with some kind of global conspiracy unfolding having to do with the world's oil supply.
Ghost Hog ★★★This was an OK comic for children. It's about a hog haunting a plum tree looking for the Hunter who killed her.
Enter the Wolf ★★★In a world filled with anthropomorphic animals in addition to humans, Jack Wolfgang is a world renown food critic by day and a CIA agent by night.
Birds of a Feather ★★★The second Jack Wolfgang story.
Light of the Jedi ★★★★Light of the Jedi is the first book set in the High Republic era, 200 years before The Phantom Menace.
The Trap ★A dying ship magnate buys a decrepit ship with the intentions of sinking her and committing insurance fraud.
Sleeping Beauty ★Something of a retelling of the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale that abandons the premise early on to tell a story about the Sleeping Beauty trying to get into ballet school.
The Man Who Shot Chris Kyle - Part 1 ★★★Fabien Nury's speculation on what happened to Chris Kyle.
Young Mozart ★★★A series of Calvin and Hobbes-esque comic strips about a young Mozart and his family.
Just One Breath ★This was REALLY hard to follow. Just way too many characters and separate stories going on.
Luisa: Now and Then ★★★★★A 33-year old single woman meets her 15-year old self and they are both disgusted with one another. The younger by how she turned out, the older by how she used to dress and act.
The Only Living Girl #1: The Island at the Edge of Infinity ★★★In this sequel to The Only Living Boy graphic novels for kids, Zee awakens in this weird amalgam world of her father's creation.
The Keeper, Vol. 1: The Angel of Malta ★★★James Bond joins the Priesthood.
Streamliner 2: All-In Day ★★★★Rockabilly racing at its best.
John Carpenter Presents Storm Kids: Grimms Town Terror Tales Rise of the Candy Creeper ★★★A middle school comic updating the Hansel and Gretel story as monster fighters.
Aster of Pan ★★★Post-apocalypse dodgeball.
Colonel Weird: Cosmagog ★★★★★Tyler Crook's art is stunning in this wonderfully told story of a man unstuck in time.
The World of Black Hammer: Library Edition, Volume 2 ★★★★The art in Black Hammer '45 by Matt Kindt is pretty awful. The Quantum Age is a far superior ode to Legion of Super-Heroes.
Shadow Service Vol. 1 ★★★★Spycraft meets witchcraft as a witch / private investigator is recruited into MI666. I'm loving this comic.
Dry Foot ★★Four Latino teenagers in 80's Miami decide to rob a drug dealer in this poorly paced comic.
Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Rift ★★★★Team Avatar heads to an area sacred to Air Nation only to find it has been industrialized. Now Aang has to do with an angry spirit who was promised the land would remain unclaimed.
Avatar: The Last Airbender: Toph Beifong's Metalbending Academy ★★★Toph grows bored with her staid life teaching classes. This isn't very exciting.
Breaklands Season One: The Chase ★★Mad Max meets the X-Men. In an apocalyptic future, everyone has powers except for Kasa. When her brother is kidnapped, she must track him down.
The Complete Emily the Strange: All Things Strange ★Little interludes with Goth kid Emily about how bored she is. After reading her stories I can identify with her.
Dragon Age: The First Five Graphic Novels ★★★★These comics built around the edges of the Dragon Age games are surprisingly solid.
Reaper of Souls ★★★Book 2 in the Kingdom of Souls series. A very solid fantasy story.
Dead Day ★★★★On Dead Day, the dead return to their families for the night. They are not traditional zombies per se. They still have their memories and aren't thirsting for brains. The story revolves around one family and how a dead loved one is looking for revenge.
