[close] This book club, centered on the "Appendix N" of Gary Gygax's Dungeon Master Guide for Dungeons and Dragons, aims to engage the TTRPG community in exploring the literary roots of the games. "Appendix N" is Gygax's list of recommended reading, diverse fantasy, and science fiction literature that influenced Dungeons & Dragons and countless RPGs. Our goal is to build a community where like-minded individuals share a passion for these genres. Together, members collectively delve into themes, ideas, and storytelling techniques from the recommended books, fostering insightful discussions and a deeper understanding of RPG influences spanning 50 years. Participation in the club inspires creativity and novel ideas for gaming sessions by drawing from the classic works' plots, characters, and settings. Discussions allow us to learn about the history and evolution of fantasy and sci-fi genres, deepening our appreciation for the hobby's cultural significance. The Appendix N's diverse range of authors and genres exposes members to varied writing styles, cultures, and perspectives, enriching our literary horizons for a more immersive gaming experience.
