Most of my confusion is about police matters, not British stuff. I confess all the talk of the A40 road (or whatever) leave me clueless, but I don't mind a bit.

And I am glad the publishers are not "AMERICANIZING" the versions available to us in the U.S. I HATE when they do that. Being exposed to new stuff is one of life's small joys.(less)

I'd like to add that white authors with white protagonists never mention if anyone is white. They do, however, specifically mention PoC. The reason for this is obviously that white people are perceived as "normal", whereas darker skin is something that must be explicitly mentioned. Peter, who is biracial, notices things differently. Personally, I rather enjoy that Aaronovich mentions characters' features in (relative) detail, so that you can properly imagine them. Moreover, it prevents the reader from thinking of the "default" white person, which really does a lot in terms of diversity. As for the errors you mentioned, my hard copy is fine, but I've heard there are/were some problems with the ebooks.(less)

The first book is a combo of the first three books and moves more quickly than the next two books, but I had no problem slogging through and enjoyed. I also liked K.V. Johannsen stuff. There is nothing quite like the combo of humor, contemporary crime drama and fantasy all rolled in one with the Ben Aaronovitch.(less)
