Here at Goodreads World Headquarters, we necessarily spot a lot of trends as we sort and stack books throughout the year. Over in the mystery/thriller department, we’ve noticed a particularly unnerving trend developing of late.
 
We’ve come to think of it as the People in Your House book title trend. These are mystery and thriller novels in which the very title suggests that all is not well in the household. Sometimes it’s family—the husband, the wife, the sister. Sometimes it’s hired help—the maid, the nanny. And sometimes it’s a troublesome, perhaps murderous, house guest. Clearly this speaks to some abiding primal fear that the home has been violated, the threat is nearer than you think, the call is coming from inside the house!
 
Today’s collection is a specially curated list featuring recent-ish mystery-thriller books in this vein, appropriately organized. Some of the threats are mysterious (The Family Game). Some are specific (My Sister, the Serial Killer). Some are perhaps even helpful, in certain circumstances (The Best Way to Bury Your Husband).
