The Year's 36 Most Anticipated Romances

People fall in love with people all the time. That’s no secret, and it’s one of the unmitigated upsides of life on this planet. People fall in love with books, too. And some people fall in love with books about people falling in love. Everybody wins!
Below we have collected 36 of the most anticipated romance novels of the new year, as determined by the titles Goodreads members are tagging in their Want to Read lists. Each of these books is scheduled to be published sometime in 2022, so now’s the time to take notes on your calendar app.
In keeping with our theme of books and love, several of this year’s new titles play around with the idea of books, readers, and the notional spaces in between.
Emily Henry (Beach Read) takes a straightforward approach with the title of her latest story: Book Lovers. Jasmine Guillory (The Wedding Date) delivers a new take on romance in the publishing business with By the Book. And things get decidedly meta in The Roughest Draft, in which real-life romance authors Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka write about a pair of fictional romance authors.
Some other themes are developing, too. It seems that witches will be having a good time in 2022. Keep an eye out for new books from Elizabeth Bass (A Letter to Three Witches), April Asher (Not the Witch You Wed), and India Holton (The League of Gentlewomen Witches.)
Also on the schedule for the new year: Alexis Hall follows up his 2020 hit Boyfriend Material with the next logical title: Husband Material. #BookTok favorite Colleen Hoover returns with Reminders of Him. And Ashley Herring Blake delivers a new queer rom-com: Delilah Green Doesn't Care.
Scroll over the book covers to learn more about each title, and add the ones that pique your interest to your Want to Read shelf!

i'm so excited and can't wait to read Book Lovers by Emily Henry. I love People We meet on vacation and A Million Junes so much (also by her). The other ones i'm interested in are Reminders of Him and Hook Line and Sinker

Thanks for catching our mistake! We've fixed the intro paragraph accordingly.
A few books by Colleen Hoover are on my tbr for this year. Adding a couple from here, totally owing to the beautiful covers!

Absolutely over this trend. Every one of these books looks exactly the same. If I see the cover to The Kiss Quotient one more time I'm going to scream. This entire genre is not my bailiwick, but if it was, I would be furious that publisher's don't think that the reader is intelligent enough to pick out what they want to read without having it spoonfed to them by the cover artwork.

Before y'all go off - I'm a firm believer in every book a reader and every reader a book, this is just not my thing.

I am excited to read Getting His Game back because it seems like it will have more substance than an ordinary romance. It discusses race, interracial dating, work/life balance, depression, and other interesting topics that go beyond he loves me/ he loves me not. I'm looking forward to some steamy parts also! 🔥

The book I'm most looking forward to is Husband Material. I loved Boyfriend Material and I'm dying to read what happens next for Luc & Oliver.

So many wonderful ones! I am particularly excited for Book Lovers by Emily Henry. And all the covers are beautiful, too!

this list it's very interesting but i have to ask... where are the lgbtqia+ romances? i mean, 95% of this ones are literally straight people (at least looking at the covers, idk if it has lgbtqia+ protagonists that date the opposite sex but i really want couples that love the same sex). if y'all have some recommendations of books with lgbtqia+ couples i would really appreciate. i'm really fucking tired of straight couple.

As for more LGBTQ+ recommendations, a few authors I would recommend are Alexis Hall, Casey McQuiston, and Alexandria Bellefleur. For historical romances, check out Cat Sebastian, K.J. Charles, and Olivia Waite. Also, for LGBTQ+ romances featuring POC protagonists, check out some of the work from Alyssa Cole and Courtney Milan.

So clearly the bigger publishing companies are buying their way into these lists. I can think of at least 3 indies that are coming out that everyone is excited about. Also, it's clear that the publishing companies have made illustrated covers a thing now. (I like it!)
