A native of Southern California, I left high school early - rebel without a cause. I survived Outward Bound, completed my undergrad degree at UC Santa Cruz (back when there were no grades), and eventually found my way to So Cal where I started out. Once here, I learned the craft of screenwriting through the UCLA MFA program.

My writing spans dramatic storytelling with classic three act structure, to journalism, grantwriting, and social media, to writing curriculum for both graduate and undergraduate writing programs. I read on a Kindle and I read traditional books equally, and love them both for different reasons.

There is nothing like a great book. And there is nothing like the journey of writing one.

I also just finished reading Neil Gaiman, American Gods. A lot of speculative fiction right now, I guess! But I'm always in awe of Alice Munro, Barbara Kingsolver's Poisonwood Bible, and Blindness by Jose Saramago. Boy, that one will change the way you look at the world. Thanks for asking!(less)

And most of getting into that persona really involved stepping back into my own childhood imagination. I was surprised to find it is still in there, and still accessible. Doing this was one of the great pleasures of writing this story. Thanks for asking such a great question.(less)
