He joked that hormones must cause superpowers, and I joked back that if they do, menopausal women would have the corner on that market!

And, YES! The sequel is in edits right now, with a planned release of April 20, 2016. Change of Life picks up a few months after the end of the first book, with Jessica and Leonel having joined a super-secret underground group called The Department and Patricia on a woman-hunt for Cindy Liu. (less)

Beyond that, I'm trying to leave myself open to serendipity. While I love my books clubs because of the camaraderie and discussions, and because, with a sense of deadline I *make* time to read even when I'm very busy, I also like just picking what appeals to me on any given day.

Just another month or so of school, then I'm on that lovely summer break schedule with much more time for reading!(less)

I've been a fan of Daphne du Maurier since I was a teenager and read Rebecca, but the only one of her short stories I was familiar with was "The Birds" (her masterful quiet horror story turned into something quite different by Alfred Hitchcock).

“Sometimes, Helen felt like she had spent her whole life waiting to be “old enough” and then had crossed over into “too old” without finding out what it was she had been waiting for. It was only now, with the tingle of fire still on her fingertips and the smell of sulphur on her skin, that she felt she knew what she wanted.”
Samantha Bryant, Going Through The Change

“Remember, ninos, everyone has a battle to fight. I wish you the strength to fight yours.”
