He joked that hormones must cause superpowers, and I joked back that if they do, menopausal women would have the corner on that market!

And, YES! The sequel is in edits right now, with a planned release of April 20, 2016. Change of Life picks up a few months after the end of the first book, with Jessica and Leonel having joined a super-secret underground group called The Department and Patricia on a woman-hunt for Cindy Liu. (less)

Beyond that, I'm trying to leave myself open to serendipity. While I love my books clubs because of the camaraderie and discussions, and because, with a sense of deadline I *make* time to read even when I'm very busy, I also like just picking what appeals to me on any given day.

Just another month or so of school, then I'm on that lovely summer break schedule with much more time for reading!(less)

Lulls and Valleys

I'm pretty good at using momentum in my writing life. It took me a while to get there, but now I've got laser focus and discipline when I've got deadlines to meet. What's harder for me now is when I have short lulls.

I'm in one right now. My critique group has my next novel, Be the Change, Book 4 of the Menopausal Superheroes series. I'm trying not to muck about with it until *after* g

I haven't read a book quite like this one before. Part memoir, part comedy, part self-help? And also sort of a graphic novel? I alternately laughed, sighed in recognition, and squirmed in discomfort from story to story.

The overarching message of the

There's something about a good pulp story--the derring do, the gusto, the unbelievable coincidences, the tension, and most of all: the satisfaction.

Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe
"Oxford World's Classics edition ed. by Thomas Keymer.
I'd always wanted to *have read* the originals of stories like this, that are most famous in children's fairytale abridgements. But apart from Swift's Gulliver's Travels, which I read as a teenager" Read more of this review »

Samantha Bryant, Going Through The Change

“Sometimes, Helen felt like she had spent her whole life waiting to be “old enough” and then had crossed over into “too old” without finding out what it was she had been waiting for. It was only now, with the tingle of fire still on her fingertips and the smell of sulphur on her skin, that she felt she knew what she wanted.”
Samantha Bryant, Going Through The Change

“It seemed a waste to have this power and not use it to make the world better somehow. When she had been the small and weak one, how often had she wished that the strong would stand up for her? Now, she was the strong.”
Samantha Bryant, Going Through The Change
