Country Music Friday – "Stay With Me (Brass Bed)" by Josh Gracin

This is one of those songs that just makes me melt. Could you imagine having the love of your life strum this on a guitar and sing this to you? Pure Heaven.

This Makes Me Smile

I just love this picture. On the left is my dad's horse, Lady, and on the right is my son's horse, Trigger. They are mother and son and I just think it is a beautiful shot of the two of them. Oh and since we're doing introductions here (LOL) the horses in my header are also from my dad's farm. From left to right we have Bueno (he's the horse I ride all the time, wonderful animal), Co-Chief and Star. And I can't forget Spirit, she's the horse on the cover of my book:) It's a terrible shot of her because it's so dark and she's so far away, but she is gorgeous.

My "Hell Yeah" by Carolyn Brown Review

This is the second novel in Ms. Brown's "Honky Tonk Series" and like the first novel it gained my interest from the start. This novel had a little more nail biting action thrown into it than the last one, and I liked that fact that Cathy wasn't afraid to kick some ass, even a man's. Here's the synopsis:

Daisy's cousin Cathy O'Dell owns and runs the Honky Tonk now and during the New Year's celebration she is greeted in the middle of the dance floor by a man named Travis Henry (who apparently resembles Matthew McConaughey…hot!). As the clock counts down this cowboy reels her in for a New Year's kiss, which of course pisses her off, even though his kiss made her melt like snow cone in July. But she won't be getting away from him that easy because Travis is running the oil drilling site right next to the Honky Tonk. After a few bizarre (but convenient) weather circumstances, Cathy breaks the rules and lets Travis stay with her in her apartment, which leads to more nights and so on and so on. But just when you think things are going smoothly, trouble ensues and Travis finds himself frantically searching for Cathy and hoping he finds her…alive.

I really liked this book and I liked how Ms. Brown continued from Daisy's story right to Cathy's (I think there's only a few months in between the books). Cathy is definitely a no nonsense woman and isn't afraid to go down fighting. And Travis is such a sweetheart and I instantly liked him from the moment he appeared on the page. Definitely a good read:)

Attention Writers

A friend of mine told me about this website for writers and I thought I'd share it with you. I think there are some great resources and tips available, no matter what kind of writing you like to do. They also have lists of contests available as well as writer's retreats. It's a very helpful website and I'm glad she showed it to me:) Check it out: www.pw.org

What the...?

Okay, so I decided to just go for it and I downloaded one of Lorelei James' Rough Riders novels to my Kindle. If you all remember, I made a post last week about how I was interested in her work because I've heard good things about her. The only thing that was making me nervous was all the warning messages underneath the synopsis. I will admit that I had the mindset of, "How bad can it be, really?" All I can say is, "Oh...my...God." Um...yeah...I think my jaw fell open in disbelief a few pages in and stayed that way until I decided that enough was enough. I got through 3 chapters and had to put it down, lol. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to post negative comments about her work. She is a very good writer and she is definitley talented...but it just was a little too graphic for my liking. I really wanted to give it a chance, so I briefly skimmed some of the pages further in looking for some sort of love story and it looks like there is...but there is also a lot more graphic, kinky sex. I just can't get past those parts to find out what the love story is. Not my kind of novel at all. Word of advice to anyone interested in reading her work...
Take those warning messages seriously people and be prepared for your jaw to drop, lol.

Country Music Friday

I thought I'd start something new and see how well it goes:) A couple of months ago, I made a post about certain songs and how they inspire me to write (click here to read that post).  Now, although I am a lover of all kinds of music, I have to say that country is by far my favorite. It's what I grew up listening to and, I don't know, it just speaks to me. LOL. I just think that there is nothing better than a good old country love song sung by a good old country boy (or girl because we can't leave out the ladies, LOL).

So let's start this thing off with one of my favorite country love songs, "Must Be Doin' Somethin' Right" by Billy Currington. I love this song and I love the music video! This has to rank up there with every woman's fantasy. Great love song? Check. Tropical setting? Check. Good looking guy without his shirt on? Check:) Seriously, what more could you ask for? Sigh. Enjoy:)

This gave me a chuckle...

I was reading Lorelei James' blog the other day and I saw this joke that I just have to share with you all.Do you know when a woman wears a leather dress, a man's heart beats quicker, his throat gets dry, he gets weak in the knees and he begins to think irrationally?Ever wonder why? It's because she smells like a new truck:)Hmm? Wonder if there's any truth to that? LOL. Speaking of Ms. Lorelei James…Has anyone read any of her novels before? I have heard many good things about her and I read her short story "Slow Ride" and liked it, but haven't gone any further than that. I went to her website to see what other novels she had available, and I've got to admit that I got a little scared by all the "warning" messages underneath each book synopsis, LOL. If you've read any of her novels, let me know what you thought and which ones you'd recommend:) My TBR pile is dwindling down so I'm going to need some new reading material here soon!

My "I Love This Bar" by Carolyn Brown Review

This is the first book in Ms. Brown's "Honky Tonk Series", and like her novels before I was instantly hooked when I read the first few pages. I was kind of shocked when I started reading the first page and my mouth literally popped open in disbelief. The novel starts off with what seems to be a love scene, or at least that's how I took it, and the reason my mouth popped open was because I couldn't believe that the novel started off that way. But you quickly find out that it's not a love scene but instead a collision between a man and a woman after the woman slipped on some beer that was spilled on the floor. Here's the rest of the synopsis:Daisy O'Dell has only one love in her life, the beer joint she owns and runs. That is, until she bumps into (literally) sexy cowboy Jarod McElroy. Jared is in town taking care of this elderly uncle and  finds himself instantly attracted to Daisy. But, being the strong and stubborn woman that she is she doesn't really give him the time of day. That is until a misunderstanding with Jarod's uncle leads to a situation that has Daisy and Jarod playing house.I really enjoyed reading this novel. Jarod is such a sweetheart and I loved how he never gave up on Daisy. He truly shows her that there are still some good guys left in this world:) And like Ms. Brown's other novels, there were some fair share of laughs in this one as well. There is this one part where Daisy is at Jarod's uncle's place and the two of them are in "their" room. Jarod sits down on the bed and the springs creak rather loudly. He gives Daisy a mischievous smile and begins to hop up and down, making it sound like they are...you know:)  Daisy gets all flustered and embarrassed knowing that Jarod's uncle must have heard the noise. Jarod laughs it off and tells her that since they are "married" it's ok. The one and only gripe I have about this book is the constant talk about country songs. I think it's alright to mention a song here or there, but the running theme for this novel was Toby Keith's "I Love This Bar" song (hence the title). But once you get past all of that it's actually a very nice novel with characters that will stick with you even after your done reading:)
