Country Music Friday - "Drunk On You" by Luke Bryan

This has got to be the perfect summer love song:) Luke Bryan has such an amazing voice...and that southern twang is just....Sigh. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find a music video for the song (guess he hasn't made one yet), but this little montage I found is just as good. Enjoy!

And don't forget to check out yesterday's post. I'm keeping the comments open through the rest of Friday, so you still have a chance to win one of those two gift cards:) Good luck!

Spring is in the Air! - And a Contest!

Oh. My. Goodness. This weather we are having here lately is absolutely wonderful! The sun is shining, the air is warm, there's not a cloud in sight...ahhh, heavenly:) Now that spring time is upon us, I couldn't help but think of all the things I'm looking forward to doing in the warmer weather. Horseback riding is near the top of that list. We go riding all year round, but I do enjoy riding in the spring and summer best. The scenery is just beautiful with all the flowers blooming, but I think the reason I like those seasons best is more for the fact that I don't have to dress in layers to keep warm:) I'm also looking forward to spending lots of time outside with my family. Our son is just getting so big and doing new things everyday. My husband and I always say to each other, "Where did the time go?" We just love watching him run around the backyard while he plays with his toys and our dog. Such wonderful memories and things to look forward to:)
Now that I've shared mine, let's hear yours! Leave a comment below sharing what your favorite warmer weather activities are.  I'll pick a random commenter or two for online gift cards to the e-vendor of choice! The winners will be posted on Saturday. Good Luck!

My "Crime Scene at Cardwell Ranch" by B.J. Daniels Review

This was one of the first novels I downloaded when I first got my e-reader, and the main reason was because it was free:) I finally got around to reading it and I'm sure glad I did. We'll get to my review in just a second, but first let me tell you what it's about...

After Hudson Savage betrayed her, Dana Cardwell hoped never to lay eyes on the seductive cowboy again. Until a bunch of old bones showed up on her family ranch. Suddenly her former lover was back in her life in a big way—to investigate a decades-old crime.Five years ago, Hud left town with a heart load of regrets. But now, as acting interim marshal, he had a job to do. And this time he wasn't walking away. Because now Dana's life was on the line—as the unsuspecting target of a killer who still walked the canyon. Hud would do whatever it took to keep Dana close. Even if it meant risking his own heart for a second chance for both of them....

This book was pretty interesting from the first few pages. During the prologue, we are given a glimpse into a murder and then chapter one begins seventeen years later when the remains of the body are discovered. The rest of the novel surrounds the investigation and is pretty much a "who done it"...sounds kind of boring when I put it that way but it's very entertaining. I loved trying to figure out which one of the suspects actually committed the crime and was blown away when the real killer actually surfaced. I remember getting to that part, piecing it together and I literally sucked in a breath of air and said "No way!". I love it when authors keep you guessing and then hit you with a surprise like that:) This book also had a little bit of romance in it between Dana and Hud. In the beginning of the novel, Dana wants nothing to do with him because he broke her heart five years ago. But Hud is determined to prove that the circumstances that tore them apart was a set up and win Dana's heart again. At first she is able to fight off his advances but when her life is targeted she finds that having Hud around to keep her safe isn't such a bad thing. The two of them make a great couple and I was glad to see the novel end the way it did:) Like I said above, I got this novel for free from Amazon but I would have gladly paid money for it.  It was a very quick and easy read (I think I read it in a day) and very hard to put down once you get into it. I'm looking forward to reading more of B.J. Daniels work.

A little humor for ya

This joke is just too cute...

A farmer drove to a neighbor's farmhouse and knocked at the door.
A boy, about nine, opened it.
"Is your dad or mom home?" asked the farmer.
"Nope, they went to town."
"How about your brother, Howard? Is he here?"
"Nope, he went with Mom and Dad."
The farmer stood there for a few minutes, shifting from one foot to the other and mumbling to himself.
"I know where all the tools are, if you want to borrow one, or I can give Dad a message," the boy said.
"Well," said the farmer uncomfortably, "I really wanted to talk to your Dad. It's about your
brother Howard getting my daughter Suzy pregnant."
The boy thought for a moment…
"You would have to talk to Dad about stud charges. I know he charges $500 for the bull and $50 for the pig, but I don't know how much he charges for Howard."

Come on spring!

The weather is supposed to be SO nice this week! 60's and 70's, woo hoo! I am dying for some warmer weather. I like winter to a certain extent but once Christmas is gone I'm kind of over it, lol. We had a pretty good weekend here. My hubby and I got to do a date night on Saturday:) There is a new Longhorn Steakhouse in our area and it doesn't officially open till today, but we ate there for our date. How you may ask? Well, a woman my husband works with gave us a friends and family invitation to try it out before it opens (it was sort of like a training seminar for the employees). We got a free meal but I would have gladly paid for it because it was delicious! I can't wait to go back:) We finished off our date with a movie and then headed back home. All in all we had a very nice weekend and I got some much time with my wonderful husband. He recently got a new job and he's been working his butt off, so needless to say I haven't seen him much latley, lol. I am very lucky to have a such a hardworking man who does everything in his power to take care of his family:)

Country Music Friday - "Alone With You" by Jake Owen

I have to admit that I am a HUGE Jake Owen fan. He his a very talented individual and I love his work! I could probably sit here and go on and on about him, but for fear of sounding like a school girl with a crush I won't:) All of his songs are really good, but I decided to stick with his newest release for this week's song. Plus, he looks pretty damn hot in the video:) Love me some Jake Owen!

My "Cowboy Trouble" by Joanne Kennedy Review

This is the first novel I had the pleasure of reading by Ms. Kennedy and it will not be the last. Here's what it's about:
A cowboy like that could break your heart...
Fleeing her latest love-life disaster, big city journalist Libby Brown's transition to rural living isn't going exactly as planned. Her childhood dream has always been to own a farm-but without the constant help of her charming, sexy cowboy neighbor, she'd never make it through her first Wyoming season.
But he could sure keep you warm at night, too...
Handsome rancher Luke Rawlins is impressed by this sassy, independent city girl. But he yearns to do more than help Libby out with her ranch. He's ready for love, and he wants to go the distance...
Then the two get embroiled in their tiny town's one and only crime story, and Libby discovers that their sizzling hot attraction is going to complicate her life in every way possible...

I really enjoyed this book and I have to say that it has one of the best opening sentence's I have ever read..."A chicken will never break your heart." I love it! This novel had a lot of mystery and suspense going on and I found that very entertaining. Libby uses her big city reporting skills to help solve a young womans disappearance, and just some of the situations she got herself in had me sitting on the edge of my seat. It kind of felt like I was watching a scary movie and I was telling her "Girl, don't you go in that room". I think the whole mystery/suspense part of the novel was written very well. The author also did a very good job at cracking me up multiple times throughout the novel. Luke's poor mother suffers from Alzheimer's, but instead of belittling her when she makes a mistake he tries to make light of the situation. There is one scene where he invites Libby (the new neighbor) over for dinner so his parents can meet her. They enter the dining room and Libby is surprised when she sees a salad bowl filled with rolled up socks in the center of the table and folded underwear set on each plate with a sprig of parsley and a cherry tomato. Luke is really cute about the whole thing explaining gently to his mother that they were in the mood for meatloaf and that they had underwear last night for dinner:) All in all it was a really good read and I'm looking forward to reading more from Ms. Kennedy.

Childhood Memories

As ridiculous as it may sound this ice cream cone completely made my day yesterday:)
When I was a child we always use to go to this little Mom & Pop shop that sold everything (and I mean everything). And when we'd leave, my brother and I would always get some hand scooped Hershey's Crazy Vanilla ice cream. As the years went on, the little shop closed and my favorite ice cream seemed to vanish off the face of the Earth. I think I've only been able to find it one other time in the past 15-20 years. Well, that all changed yesterday:) We were out running errands and my Mom makes a comment about stopping into this little country store to get some ice cream. I was undecided until I saw the Hershey's Hand Scooped sign out front and was like "What the heck. It's worth a shot." I walk in the doors and low and behold they have my favorite ice cream! I think if I could have bought the whole tub I would have, lol. And the second most wonderful thing is they carry it all the time. I know it is probably really corny of me to write a whole post about ice cream, but it's just those little things that bring back such fond memories of my childhood and I love it!
