Hooray!

I am happy to announce that I got my re-edited copy of "When the Heart Falls" back from my editor this weekend! Nothing has been changed as long as the story line goes. She just helped me clean it up a little bit in the grammar department. I will be uploading the revised version to Amazon within the next few days. As soon as it's there I will let you all know. Thanks!

Country Music Friday – "Holding Out For A Hero" by Ella Mae Bowen

Although I really like Bonnie Tyler's upbeat 80's version of this song, I gotta say that this slower one is my favorite of the two. I think it sounds much more sweet and romantic. Every time I hear it I always think it would be the perfect song in the background of a love scene. The little details play out in my head like a movie: a man and a woman alone in a candle lit room; tender, sweet kisses; soft white cotton sheets; a close up shot of the man's hand as he slowly slides the strap of her dress from her shoulder while he trails slow, lingering kisses down her neck…sigh.

My Love Story

Keeping with the theme for this week, I decided to write down my own personal love story. Here goes:)

My love story begins about eleven years ago. I was working at an electronic store when one day this new guy, Rob, starts. Now I know what you're probably thinking. You're expecting me to be all "Oh it was love at first sight" and "I just knew this was the man that I was going to spend the rest of my life with."

Nope. Not even close. In all honesty, I didn't like him.

But to be fair, it wasn't his fault that I didn't like him. A co-worker told me this ridiculous lie about him and stupid me believed the co-worker instead of confronting Rob about it. But as luck would have it, Rob ended up confronting me about why I hated him so much. So I told him, and that's when I found out it was a lie. I instantly felt bad about it and soon after that, Rob and I became friends.

We would spend most of our time at work talking to each other about anything and everything. We worked in different departments that were separated by a half wall of accessories, so people always made the "Home Improvement" reference of Wilson and Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor when they saw us talking because we'd just be hanging out at the wall chatting it up.

Fast forward a couple of months. Our friendship has grown and, even though I wouldn't admit it to myself at the time, my feelings for him have grown as well. The realization of this setting in after he comes into work one day and tells me he's going out on a date that weekend. I'll admit it, I was jealous. My heart sank to my stomach and that's when I finally realized that I didn't want him seeing anyone but me. Of course there was one little snag; I was in a relationship with someone else.  It was a dead end relationship and to be honest, I don't know why I stayed with the guy for so long. Anyway, that guy and I called off our relationship shortly after that.

A week or so later it was Easter. I had just come home after celebrating the holiday with my father's side of the family when my mother stopped me and told me that some guy called and wanted to wish me a Happy Easter. He didn't leave a name or number for me to return the call, so I had to wait till I worked again to find out that it was Rob.

We started talking more and more and finally we decided to spend some time together outside of work. It just so happened that I went over to his house the night before his birthday. I remember sitting downstairs in the living room, looking at the clock and realizing that it was past midnight. I turned towards him, smiled and wish him a Happy Birthday. He smiled back and the look in his eyes gave me that warm, tingly feeling all over. I stayed with him till 3 o'clock in the morning, just watching TV, talking and playing video games. I remember telling him as I was leaving that I didn't want to go, to which he replied that he didn't want me to either. You would expect there to be a good night kiss at the end of this story, but there isn't. I know he wanted to, but for some reason (and don't ask me why) I wouldn't let him kiss me.

Our friendship had grown into something more, and for the first time in a long time I was happy. Really happy. Rob treated me with such respect and he was so darn thoughtful; which is something that I certainly wasn't use to. We had made plans to go out one night to the beach and just walk up and down the boardwalk. Of course it was on a night that I was scheduled to work late. I got out of work and walked out to my car only to find two roses on my windshield; one real and one fake. I arrived home, got ready for my date and waited for Rob. When he showed up, I thanked him for the flowers and asked him why he got me a fake one along with the real one. He told me that the fake one would last forever, just like his love for me would last forever. Aw:) I still have that rose to this day. He escorted me to his truck, but before we got there I pulled him to a stop and told him I wanted to thank him for my presents. And then I kissed him. I think I may have caught him off guard because up until this point we had only hugged and shared chicken pecks (I know, I know, but I was trying to take things slow because I really liked him and didn't want to rush into things). He smiled at me when the kiss ended and opened my door for me. I was buckling my seatbelt when he got in on his side and looked at me. He smiled and reached for me, saying "I gotta do that again" as he kiss me once more. I laughed in reply and kissed him back.

Now, let's jump forward to three years later. It's Easter morning, and I wake up at Rob's house (having spent the night there). I get dressed and head downstairs with him to open our Easter baskets. Now, let me fill you in on something real quick. Never in the Easter's before this one had we exchanged gifts or opened Easter baskets. So I could kind of tell that something was up:) His parent's and his sister are waiting for us at the kitchen table, so we joined them and began to open our Easter eggs. I get down to the last one, and I open it only to find that it has an engagement ring in it with a tiny note on the lid that says, "Kim, will you marry me?" I gasped and then I laughed (rather obnoxiously, lol) just because I was so surprised and excited. Rob turned to me and asked, "Well?" To which I said, "Yes!"

We were married three years later and had an absolutely beautiful summer wedding. I love looking back on that day and remembering how Rob looked at me when I met him at the altar; his eyes glistening with such love and emotion. We've been going strong for a few years now and have even added a little addition to our family, a son:) He brings such joy to our lives, and having him makes me love my husband even more because he gave me this wonderful gift.

Now, I'm not trying to get all sappy here and make it out like everything is always sunshine and rainbows with us because it's not, lol. We fight, we yell, and we cuss. But most of all, we love. And it's that undying love we have for one another that keeps us together and makes me thankful for everyday I have with this wonderful man.

And that folks is my love story…well, so far at least:)

My "Honky Tonk Christmas" by Carolyn Brown Review

Sharlene Waverly now owns and runs the Honky Tonk. Along with being the owner and operator of the local beer joint, she is also a veteran of the United States Army and a successful romance novelist. Sharlene, like all the other women who owned the Honky Tonk before her, loves her beer joint and vows that no man will ever come between her and her place of business.

Enter Holt Jackson. Holt is a devoted single father of two, having inherited his sister's five year old twins after she was killed in an auto accident. He moves to Mingus after Sharlene hires him and his crew to build an extension on the Honky Tonk.

The two of them try like crazy to deny their feelings for one another but, with the help of two ornery little kids, they're about to have one Christmas that they'll never forget.

This is the final book of Ms. Brown's "Honky Tonk" Series. Let me start off by saying that this novel took me a pretty long time to finish. Although I liked it, I didn't love it like I did the others. I think the reason behind that is that this one felt so repetitive. Sharlene seemed to explain all of the other owners stories so many times that I probably could have just read this book and knew exactly what happened in the other three without ever picking them up. I really liked Holt's character. It takes a brave man to take in five year old twins, and just reading him interact with them was very heartwarming. His interactions with Sharlene, although mischievous at times, were very sweet and made me like him even more. All in all I did like the book and it was a good read, but if you want my honest opinion I think Ms. Brown could have ended this series with the third book. Like I said before, it was just very repetitive and I guess that's what kind of made me just like the book and not love it.

Lisa Andrade's Love Poem

Happy Valentine's Day Everyone!

And now it's time for a love poem:) Lisa Andrade is one of the winner's of the "It's a Love Story" contest. Enjoy:)

Blossom
Dedicated to My Darling Husband, Rudy…

Darling, It is only you I have loved ever since our romance first blossomed.
Like the most exquisite thorn-ridged rose, every fine romance deserves to blossom into something more beautiful & ravishing…
beyond our wildest imaginations, our wildest dreams, and our wildest fantasies…
beginning with the spice of life as the main ingredient.

Rudy, my darling, it is only you who is worthy of the highest praise because you love me for who I am, and let me be who I am meant to be.

I dedicate this poem to you:

A Fairytale Dream Come True

I've loved you ever since... our fairytale romance first blossomed.....

Once upon a time in a fairytale so magical
there was a beautiful young princess
who lived in a castle nestled in the heart
of the most enchanted forest filled with emerald
green trees and autumn leaves of ruby,
amber brown, and yellow-orange with hues so golden.

This is not a story about a man with a golden
touch, or wizards and good witches with a magical
wand, or about a girl with a dog and ruby
red slippers. It's a tale about a fairy princess
dreaming of a prince to capture her heart.

A whimsical fairy willing to share her heart,
she wears long braided curls in her golden
locks and has eyes of green like a pure emerald
stone. Her personality makes her a princess
so passionate and fair, her senses are so magical
and her lips of seduction are as red as a ruby.

Here comes her prince, he's as rare as a ruby,
she yearns for him with every beat of her heart.
Her prince is the envy of every other princess.
Now is her moment, it is her golden
opportunity to share a wonderful and magical
life so precious, more precious than a stone of an emerald.

The prince's chariot is adorned in gems of green emerald,
midnight blue sapphires, and the reddest stones of ruby.
He asks the princess to marry him with his own magical
words, to take his hand and his heart,
to be his bride and to live in a golden
palace where she will reside as his princess.

As she accepts his offer to be his princess,
he slides a ring on her finger aglow with an emerald,
with the band polished in 14 karat gold, so golden,
outlined with multiple stones in red ruby.
It's a ring he designed for her right from his heart,
it's a symbol of a lasting love so magical.

For this golden princess with eyes of emerald, lips of ruby and a magical heart,
dreams can come true as it did in this final chapter.
The prince and princess lived happily ever after...

And remember, darling… it is only you I have loved…
ever since our fairytale romance first blossomed.

Tammy Powell's Love Story

Tammy Powell is one of the winner's of the "It's a Love Story" contest. Below is the story she submitted. Enjoy:)

My story for when I meet my guy, who is named Cory, starts a few years ago. I was engaged and dating a guy for almost 6 years. I was in a dead end relationship. I was that woman you want to scream at why are you still putting up with this guy and realize you can do better. I guess you could call me blinded by the "love."

Well one year I started my adventure for selling candy for relay for life. I sold a lot of candy. One guy in particular would come back and buy a lot of candy. I thought he just wanted candy and didn't think anything of it. When he came back we would talk for a little bit here and there about random things. It felt like we could talk about anything. He even would share his candy with me that he bought. For a couple of years the talking was going on. I didn't think anything of it I just liked talking with him and he liked talking with me.

I was still dating the other guy till we had a very spiteful breakup during the middle of 2011. I started to try to get out and find friends to hang out with. During this time it was Halloween and I invited all the people I could think of to go to the bar after work. I wanted to dress up this Halloween. So I texted Cory and invited him with a few friends. I asked him if afterwards we could hang and catch up and he said sure. We hung out till almost 4 am. Then the next week we hung out again in ocean city at 10 pm at night. We were the only ones there it felt like the beach was just open for us. It was so magical. We walked and talk about everything like normal. Then we started holding hands as we walked back. Then while we looked at the water on the sandy beach, he said he was cold and I said he could put his hands in my pockets, and he wrapped his arms around me to do so. Then we walked back to the car and left for the night and he held me close on and off that night. We kept talking in text on and off again. We had our 1 st kiss in the park after he asked for a taste of my lip gloss and he pulled me in for a kiss, A kiss that I till then have only seen in movies. After a month of talking we knew we wanted to be together. We were camping and he asked me be his girlfriend.

Ever since we started talking and now dating has been the greatest time of my life. I never felt this happy before. The moments we have had leading up to us being together I thought I would never experience except for in my dreams or watching the movies. The friend has feelings for the girl and she didn't know it because she was trapped in a loveless relationship. Then they find each other again and live happily ever after. That is my romantic story of how I meet Cory the man of my dreams and now of my life.

Country Music…Thursday? – "My Valentine" by Martina McBride

I know I do this normally on Friday's, but I decided to move it up a day so I can announce the winner of the "It's A Love Story" contest tomorrow instead. Anyway, seeing as Valentine's Day is right around the corner, I thought it'd be appropriate to post a Valentine's Day song. I wasn't able to find the actual music video but this video is very nice. Enjoy:)

My "My Give A Damn's Busted" by Carolyn Brown Review

This is the third book in Ms. Brown's "Honky Tonk Series" and I gotta say, this one didn't reel me in like the first two did. This one also got on my nerves the most with the country music references (Jo Dee Messina's "My Give A Damn's Busted" is the running theme…as you can tell from the title). That being said, the rest of the book made up for it. I was hooked from the middle on and honestly didn't want to put it down. Here's what it's about:

Larissa Morley now owns the Honky Tonk and takes care of running the place. During an incident with a deer that runs her off the road she meets hunky cowboy Hank Wells. The two bicker back and forth for the first part of the novel, with Hank trying to get close to Larissa and Larissa not wanting to let herself fall for Hank. But just Larissa loses herself in Hanks arms, he drops a bomb on her that shatters her heart into a million pieces and has her cursing the day they met. However, Larissa is no angel herself and has her own little box of secrets that are sure to make his head spin.

So, like I said before this one didn't hold my interest really until I got to the middle. From that point on I had a really hard time putting it down because I just had to know what was going to happen next. I'm telling you, when I hit that middle part and Hank drops that bomb, whoa, my mouth literally popped open and I said (rather loudly) "What?!". I never saw it coming. So in conclusion, would I recommend this book? Yes, most certainly.

Is it summer yet?

Ugh! I am sick of cold weather already. I'm not asking for a heatwave right off the bat or anything; just some warmer non-jacket weather. Anyway...my Dad held a trail ride at his house on Sunday and the weather was supposed to fairly nice...but it was not. We woke up to drizzling rain and needless to say it was pretty freakin' cold. But by the time we got the horses saddled and everyone else showed up the sun finally came out. It was still cold and windy but we had a great ride. Later in the evening we went to a Super Bowl party but had to leave at half time in order to get our son to bed. THAT was a nightmare, lol. He was so amped up I guess from playing with all the kids that it took him an hour before he stopped screaming at the top of his lungs and finally went to sleep.
Now, let's talk about my next book briefly. I got to sit down this weekend and work on some more editing. I thought I had it how I wanted it...but now I'm not so sure. I mean, I like it the way it is but I think it could also be a lot better if I rearranged and combined some chapters. I'm racking my brain trying to figure all of this out, lol. I litterally sat at my kitchen table the other night and stared at my laptop screen for 6 hours as I moved this part here and added this part there. 6 hours later I was still unsatisfied. Sigh. It will get there, I know it will. Its just taking longer than I hoped. But I'm very excited to get it out there for you all to read! I am totally in love with these characters and I'm glad that I decided to make this into a series so I could hang on to them for a little while longer:) I hope that once I publish it and you all read it that you feel the same:)
Alright, I need to sign off here but before I go I just want to remind everyone to check out my "It's a love story" contest that is going on this week! Check out my post from yesterday for the details. Thanks all!
