How far would you go to avenge your family and save the one you love?
In 19th century England, Alaina Claiborne had a loving family, a cherished friend, and devoted servants. She spent her days riding across the grassy hills of the English countryside, joyful and at peace. Then tragedy strikes in the worst possible way and her world is forever changed, childhood gone and a new course set. Searching for a killer is her only focus, that is until she meets Tristan.
Tristan Sheffield is a man of many talents, among them searching out those who don't want to be found. His past is filled with secrets and deeds he would rather leave deeply buried. However, when his life is unexpectedly entwined with Alaina's, he soon discovers they share more than a mutual desire to catch a murderer.
On their hunt for a man driven by greed, Tristan and Alaina find that love is the greatest weapon against evil and they'll stop at nothing to survive.
Excerpt:
Tristan ignored the pain in his shoulderfrom busting down the back door as he made his way frantically through the oldhouse. It was dark, dank, and an unpleasant odor wafted from the skeleton ofevery room. It looked as though someone had been there on and off for a while. The floors were covered in an inch of dirt except through the kitchen and theback hallways, both of which appeared to be well trodden paths through thehouse. Tristan swore that he could hear rats scuffling along the upper floorsand there was the distinct smell of death lingering in the air. Whoever hadmade their temporary home in that debilitated old structure was probably shovedaway in a closet somewhere. Hecontinued his search, finding nothing. The screams had stopped the moment he broke through the back door and hewas now looking everywhere for a basement door. The sounds had been too muffledto have come from upstairs. Charles met him halfway through the search, revealing that he too had found nothing; until they happened upon a door in thekitchen floor. Charlesplaced a hand on Tristan, holding him off, wanting to go first, but Tristanshook him off and pulled up on the heavy door. The corridor leading down wasdarker than the rest of the house and smelled much worse. Feeling their way along the wall, both mencarefully felt their way down the steps. Up ahead a dim light cast shadows andthe glowed a little brighter with each step. Picking up his pace, Tristan movedtowards the light and came to another door. This one was bolted shut and on theother side came the moans-barely audible, but they were there. "Alaina?"Tristan yelled through the bars in the door. No answer; a small moan. Charles studiedthe lock for a moment. "Wewon't be getting through this one easily," he offered. "Likehell we won't," Tristan replied and pushed Charles back.

Paranormal Romance
I recently read my first ever paranormal romance novel (I know, I know, where have I been? Lol). As you all know from my book reviews, I normally only read western romances. So this novel was a nice change of pace and honestly has got me totally interested in reading more paranormal stuff. I do enjoy the world of fantasy (aka vampires, werewolves, etc) so I'm not entirely sure as to why I waited so long to read one. Anyway...I was wondering what your opinion on the whole "real vs fantasy" thing is in terms of romance novels. Would you prefer to read about stuff that can actually happen? Or would you rather let your mind fully escape to another world?

My "The Lawman" by Lily Graison Review
On the run from her ex-lover, jilted by a no-show husband and now mistaken for a whore in the Diamond Back saloon, Abigail Thornton doesn't think things can get any worse. That is until a single slap to a man's face starts a barroom brawl that lands her in the last place she expected to be.Town Marshal Morgan Avery wants nothing more than to wash away the trail-dust and sleep for a week, preferably with a soft, willing woman by his side. Instead, he gets Abigail Thornton – all one hundred pounds of her thrust at him seconds before a fist connects with his face. Breaking up the fight takes more effort than he wants to admit and when the last man falls he finds Abigail still standing and not looking the least bit contrite.
Throwing her into the town jail for the night would salve his wounded pride and then he will let her go. Or that was the plan. When morning comes he finds himself oddly reluctant to do so. Miss Thornton is hiding something and he aims to find out what, even if he has to bed her to do so. But will one night in her bed be enough?
My Review:
We are first introduced to Abigail Thornton as she arrives in the town of Willow Creek to marry a man whom she has never met. Upon arrival, she learns that her husband-to-be is no longer available for marriage and decides to leave town immediately. However, the stage coach driver is over at the saloon "taking a break" and even though ladies are not permitted in the building, she bursts through the doors and demands that the bartender fetch the driver. Abigail's presence in the saloon causes a ruckus as one of the men confuses her for a whore and vows to have his way with her. When she fights off his advances, a full on barroom brawl ensues and as she attempts to escape she finds herself in the arms of the towns marshal.
Morgan Avery has been on the trail of an outlaw for far too long and all he wants is a strong drink and the comfort of a woman. He never expected one like Abigail to just land in his arms the minute he entered the saloon. Nor did he expect that this little lady was the cause for the scene before him. After breaking up the fight, Morgan begins his interrogation with Abigail about why she was in the bar in the first place when she clearly wasn't supposed to be in there. When she blows him off and storms past him, the marshal decides enough is enough and hauls her off to jail, literally flinging her over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes with her kicking and screaming the whole way. Although Abigail is very upset at first about being thrown in jail, she soon starts to believe that maybe this sudden turn of events is a Godsend and that being under the marshal's watchful eye isn't such a bad thing. With some helpful advice from his brother, and his inner conscious nagging him, Morgan decides he can't leave a lady locked up in the jail cell without proper provisions and invites her to stay in his home. Little does he know though that his simple gesture will change his life forever.
This was a very quick and enjoyable read (it's only about 12 chapters long). I feel that the story flowed very nicely and didn't give you a chance to get bored. The relationship between Morgan and Abigail was rather amusing at first with the two of them bickering all the time and hiding the undeniable lust they felt for each other the minute they met. On a side note, I'd just to mention that I was pretty shocked at Abigail's sudden attitude change. During the whole barroom brawl and time spent in jail she keeps going on about how much of a lady she is and denounces the fact that she is a whore. But after her first night at Morgan's house she practically throws herself at him. I found that confusing at first because upon reading her go on so much about being a lady and all I figured she was a virgin…which she clearly makes known that she's not. Moving on…the townsfolk's meddling was a little annoying but made for some humorous and awkward scenarios. I liked how the author played out Abigail's past coming back to haunt her and was pleased with the final outcome. This is one of those novels that I'd like to see revisited and have the author make it longer because I just didn't want it to end so soon. All in all I enjoyed the book very much and would recommend it to anyone looking for some light romance reading.

My "Rocky Mountain Desire" by Vivian Arend Review
Nothing comes easy. You've gotta work for it.Six Pack Ranch, Book 3Matt Coleman always figured at this point in his life, he'd be settled down with a family. Since his ex split for the big city, though, no way will he give anyone else the chance to drop-kick his heart. Physical pleasure? Hell, yeah, he'll take—and give—with gusto, but nothing more.Hope Meridan is working long hours to hold on to her new quilt shop, going it alone since her sister/business partner ran off. Sex? Right, like she's got the time. Not that she doesn't have the occasional dirty fantasy about Matt. Fat chance he'd dream of knocking boots with her—the younger sister of the woman who dumped him. Nope, she'll just have to settle for the F-word.Friends would be far easier if there wasn't something combustible going on between them. And when casual interest starts to grow into something more, their tenuous bond strengthens in the heat of desire. But it may not survive the hurricane-force arrival of the last person either of them ever wanted to see again…Warning: Small-town rivals, men in pursuit and family meddling—in good and bad ways. Look for a cowboy who knows how to rope, ride and rein in a hell of a lot more than eight seconds of sheer bliss.
My Review: Yes folks, they just keep getting better! Book number three in the Six Pack Ranch series is another winner and will leave you with the biggest smile on your face:)This novel follows the story of Matt Coleman and Hope Meridan. In the beginning Matt is still sort of grieving over his break-up with his high school sweetheart and longtime love, Helen. That is until he runs into Helen's younger sister Hope during his brother's bachelor party. Hope is struggling to make it on her own after Helen just up and left town, leaving her with rent and a brand new business to run all by herself. After an awkward run in at the bachelor party, Hope and Matt realize that there is an attraction between them that wasn't there before. A few months pass before they see each other again, and even though Hope is extremely attracted to Matt, she decides that having him in her life as anything more than a friend would be too complicated. Matt agrees to her terms of friendship, knowing he'd rather be around her as her friend than not be around her at all. But try as they might to keep things in the friend zone, it just isn't meant to be.
I really liked Matt ever since he appeared in the first novel. He is so sweet, caring and thoughtful and I was happy to see him in the kind of relationship he deserved all along. His ex, Helen, was just a horrible, horrible woman and I just don't know how and why the heck he stayed with her for so long. I enjoyed Hope's character very much and admired her will power and strength. She did everything to keep her new business running and did it without the charity of others. But as much as I admired her for all of that, it was nice to see her lean on Matt for support when she really needed it. As their relationship developed, it was nice to see them both regain the trust that they had lost in their pasts. And I just have to add that this book has one of the sweetest endings I have ever read. I think I actually "Awed" out loud when I read that particular scene, lol.
